Bonjour Giulia! Hours after giving birth to the newest addition to the First Family, France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy took to her official website to announce the name of her newborn daughter with President Nicolas Sarkozy, and thank well-wishers for their support.
“I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter, Giulia,” writes Bruni. “On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all those of you who sent us these tokens of your kindness.”
Earlier that day (October 19), President Sarkozy briefly spoke of his “deep joy” at a public appearance in the town of Mayenne.
All of you who are parents can understand the very deep joy that Carla and I feel. Each one of you can also understand that it’s an even deeper joy because it is private.
“We have been lucky to have a very happy event take place,” the president continued. “I will just keep to these few brief words to say to you that they are doing very well.”
Giulia Sarkozy was born at the Clinique de la Muette in Paris, France at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19.
The only daughter born to both parents, baby Giulia joins big brothers Pierre, 26, Jean, 25, Louis, 14, and Aurelien, 10.
