If you’ve ever tuned into an episode of the Real Housewives Of New Jersey, you are no stranger to the constant drama that occurs between Melissa Gorga and her sister-in-law Teresa Giudice. The reality TV star sits down with Hollybaby.com and opens up about protecting her children against their aunt’s erratic behavoir, her off-screen family life and what’s important as a parent.
Melissa – who is married to Teresa’s brother Joe – claims that she hasn’t had an easy relationship with her famous sister-in-law from the get go and says that the on-screen fighting during the filming of the reality series hasn’t helped their situation one bit.
No matter what may be going on her life, Melissa feels that it is important to shield her three children Antonia, 6, Gino, 4 and Joey, 1 from their aunt’s destructive ways.
“You try to cover it up as much as you can and for as long as you can,” she reveals. “There’s no reason why a young child should see their aunts or uncles or any grown adults not being able to get a long. They just want to love their aunts. The want to love their uncles. So to bring them in is selfish and it’s mean. Just to make them side with you, it’s terrible.”
Although things may be socially unstable for the two on-screen, Melissa works hard at maintaining presence and balance for her family off-screen, which can prove hard due to her demanding filming schedule.
“It’s difficult for me because I’m so used to being with them 24 hours a day,” she admits. “Now I have to take myself away sometimes and have a babysitter step in. It’s hard to let go because I want to be there for every single thing.”
“I have no cooks, no nannies, no housekeepers, none of that,” she shares. “I like doing it myself. If it ever gets to a point where I’m completely overwhelmed, then of course you have to. For now I’m good.”
When Melissa is not busy filming the show, she takes advantage of the time she can spend with her children.
When I’m home, we’re all sitting down together. We eat dinner together. My husband has a lot of the same values as I do, which works great for us because we teach our children a lot of respect for their parents and to spend time with us. We don’t just plop them in front of a TV and walk away. We want to talk to them. We sit around the dinner table together every single night.”
No matter what’s going on in her life, Melissa maintains that she is happy and has the family she has always envisioned her herself.
“I’ve always said I want three children,” she reveals. “That was my number whether they were three girls, three boys. I have the boys, I have my one little princess, so I’m happy.”
