Kate Gosselin Denies Rumored Return To Nursing

Mom-of-eight and former reality TV queen Kate Gosselin appeared on The View today (October 31) to celebrate Halloween with the ladies and chat about her future plans now that her latest show has been cancelled. Though some reported that Gosselin was planning to return to her nursing career to make ends meet, Kate says that’s not an option.

“It was always my backup plan, but one day you realize your backup plan won’t work to provide for eight kids,” Gosselin explained.

With ratings that had been faltering for weeks, Kate admits that she had a feeling the end was near for the show, telling the ladies, “Obviously as an adult I’m paying attention to ratings. It was still a shock to hear it and sit the kids down for our first ever family meeting.”

And though things aren’t looking good right now, Kate is still hopeful that she’ll soon be able to return to the small screen, possibly with 10-year-old twins Mady and Cara, and her 7-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel in tow.

When asked about her ex, Jon Gosselin‘s comments about being happy that his children are no longer on television, Kate responded, “I don’t typically comment on what he has to say. His opinions don’t affect me.”

Defending her decision to try to stay in the spotlight, Gosselin says that her goal was always “to go further” in order to provide her children with more opportunities.

Be a nurse, and write some books about parenting 8 kids as a normal mom. The fact she’s already a household name means those books would make her the money she needs. Her being on TV is unwelcome and unnecessary. That she keeps using her children’s needs as the buffer between the haters and her sickening quest for fame is pretty sad.

Median salary for a staff nurse in Wernersville is $65K. Will that provide the same lifestyle they’ve become accustomed to? No. But, you know what? You can provide for a family on that, even a large family, IF you’re willing to make some sacrifices…which she is not.

Plus, she gets child support from Jon. And I don’t believe for a second that she doesn’t still have money left over from the book deals (which she made millions off of) and the TV show (which I believe she made at least a million off of.) So you’re right, she could support her kids on that.

What a load of crap. She wants to be on TV again, not to provide for her children, but to feed her own ego. And nurses can make a lot of money, and have flexible work schedules, so she could work as a nurse and provide for her children, especially now that they are in school and wouldn’t require daycare. She just doesn’t want to actually have to work for her money.

This headline scared me (how a propos on Halloween)… I thought it meant Kate was going to start breastfeeding the sextuplets again at the age of 7 (don’t know if she did originally, but was simply my first interpretation of the headline.)

Kate Gosselin is crazy. For years and years she has stated on camera, off camera, everywhere, that she would go back to nursing if she needed to support her children.

What is wrong this woman? Can’t she keep her stories straight? Kate Gosselin is nothing but a chronic liar.

Always interesting to me that people think she could just go today and get a high-paying nursing job. That’s hysterically funny!!!! Nursing jobs are NOT that easy to come by, ESPECIALLY for someone who’s been out of the field for years. Would YOU hire a nurse that hasn’t been nursing for 7 years? I’m sure her “Dancing with the Stars” stint would look grrrrrrrrreat on a resume.

Also, there is probably no way she could afford her house on a nurse’s salary (assuming that she could get the $65k someone else quoted). The kid’s dad has a blue collar job and is probably not making much, therefore, there probably isn’t much child support being paid.

(And before the harpies start chiming in about how she should sell her house, you might want to take a look at real estate in this country. It’s not happening.)

SO NOT TRUE!!! My sister-in-law had a baby who is now 16 YEARS OLD and she had not worked from the month before she was born and she had NO problem finding a job in a hospital. Nurses are in demand for hospitals, just not physician offices because of the better hours available in an office environment. Yes I find it scary that anyone can return after years off and be responsible for lives but that is the facts. BTW my S-I-L works at a nationally known teaching hospital in a large metropolitan area. I wonder if she could not pass her courses? Her mastery of proper english sure is not up to college level? Just a thought.

Seriously, one person (your S-I-L) getting a nursing job is not concrete proof that ANYONE looking for a nursing job should be able to get one 1-2-3.

I totally agree with you. People can’t seem to understand that a nurses salary is not going to provide for eight kids. She truly does need a job in television or writing books, it is the only way she can provide for herself and those kids. I hope something good comes her way.

Wow you really drank the kool-aid. Do you honestly think that no one has ever raised 8 children on a salary that is less than what one would make to be on TV? Tons of people raise large families on much smaller incomes then that. They just don’t get to waste tons of money on hair extensions, tanning, plastic surgery, expensive cars, fake nails, and bodyguards.

I am confused? Kate Gosselin wants to go further for her children. Let there be no mistake, the children have supported themselves and Ms. Gosselin. So in other words, Kate Gosselin wants her children to continue working so she can stay home. Boy of boy, Kate Gosselin needs a reality check.

Her children have become accustomed to a certain lifestyle…why shouldn’t she do everything she can to ensure that they maintain it? My daughter is accustomed to certain things, nowhere near the Gosselin children, but I will do whatever I have to do to be sure she continues to enjoy the things she has.

There’s a difference between a parent trying to give their child a good lifestyle and Kate forcing her children to give up their privacy and childhood so that she can afford a chef, nannies, a bodyguard, plastic surgery, new clothes, expensive hair extensions. Kate’s desperately trying to convince us all that this is about maintaining her children’s standard of living, but it’s not. I watched her show both before the move to the huge house and after, and the kids seemed much happier in the smaller house, going to public school, and having a lower standard of living. It doesn’t require a mansion, a staff, and trips to Australia in order to have a happy chlidhood.

Well hopefully she can maintain this lifestyle without sacrificing her children’s privacy and well being. After finding out that her show was associated with a child pedo, hopefully she has wised up. Time for her to earn the money, not live on what the children has earned for her.

Because maybe, just maybe, some things are more important than “the lifestyle one has come accustomed to.” Things like privacy and dignity. Things like raising your kids in a (relatively) normal environment. So that your kids don’t have to worry if daddy is on the cover of a magazine with the woman he cheated on mommy with. And as mentioned above, nurses don’t exactly make minimum wage. If the profession offers too little money for all 8 kids to eat, that’s one thing. If the profession offers too little money for all 8 kids to have a 20K birthday party, then maybe that should be fine.

Huh? I thought she is sending her kids to dancing school, singing school, acting school so THEY can be in commercials and TV shows and SHE is going to manage them and charge them a fantastic amount so they get basically nothing when they are grown except mental illness.

She has renewed her nursing license every fall for the past few years. Others support large families…the Hayes’ on “Table for Twelve” supported 10 children, mom & dad on his police officer salary which generally is less than that of an RN. SHE is the one accustomed to the “High Life” and wants to maintain HER lifestyle, even if it means the kids working – what a POS!

I’d love to have seen her TLC contract, especially her final one. Did she bind her children exclusively to TLC? If so, was she bound by Pennsylvania state law to withhold a portion of earnings in fiduciary trust until their adulthood? I’m guessing the final contract was negotiated to favor the mother w/ very little mention made of the children and their net recovery at the end of the contract and the end of their childhood. Kids don’t need “opportunities” when they are little kids and dependent on their parents, they need loving one-on-one attention, nutrious meals, a decent bedtime, to be taught manners and proper behavior, and to receive a real education in a scholastic setting. They don’t need to be globetrotting around the world and shown on TV and held up to be good examples of poor parenting.

Why can’t she just “provide” for her kids instead of super provide for them? My kids went to Disneyland once in their life. They went to public school, had a modest home, we had a 10 yr old car. We didn’t go on annual vacations but we did familiy stuff like soccer, drill team, school events etc. They turned into perfectly fine adults. Happy and well adjusted. Her kids do not NEED all the fluff and puff she keeps telling people they need. Her nursing career would pay for their “NEEDS”. They do not NEED private school, 3 vehicles, a house big enough so the kids can get lost and be out of Kates hair. They do not NEED monthly vacations and trips. They just don’t. Period. They NEED love, attention, food, clothing and shelter. The rest is overkill. Yes, it’s nice when you can provide it but you don’t have to strive to provide it because they don’t NEED it. She has her priorities messed up. This is more about what she needs…she NEEDS the fame and attention. The kids were a means to her end. She should face facts and accept that the kids were not put on this earth to provide for her..it’s the other way around.

Your kids didn’t NEED to go to Disneyland, but you WANTED to them. They didn’t NEED to play soccer, but you WANTED them to.

Who are you to decide what HER children need or what she WANTS to provide them with?

You’ve based your entire argument on a rumor that she’s going to have her kids do something(?). You really should wait for facts.

You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. The previous poster said that it’s not bad to give your kids those extra things, if you can afford to, but it’s not an absolute necessity to give them those things.

And you seem deeply confused because you have stated that it’s up to Kate do decide what she wants to provide for her kids. She is not providing for her kids, she has forced her children onto a reality show, and has sold their privacy to the highest bidder, all to make her children provide for themselves as well as for her.

It’s kind of sick that you could actually defend a mother who would exploit her own children that way. It shows me a lot about the kind of warped priorities you have.

Could not agree more. I grew up practically poor but my parents provided my necessary care, food, shelter, education and clothes on my back. We didnt go on vacations, we didnt always get to do fun things, but they did their best to give us a good life on a small income. Life is not all about how much u can give its what u can give that matters. I grew up with a friend who was 1 of 10 kids & only the dad worked. They had nice clothes, house, etc. Bottom line is with Kates savings, child support & a job in a nursing field she can provide. Like someone above stated kids are in school all day she could work then. i know lots of nurses with kids & they all make their own schedule one only works weekends n makes enough to provide her 4 kids so Kate just needs to admit she likesctye spotlight n stop using her kids as an excuse!

Speak for yourself. Just because money is your focus, doesn’t mean it’s the focus for everyone. I adore my privacy. I like having peace of mind and being able to pick and choose the details of my life that are accessible to strangers (and even family and friends). I’m more than fine with my modest lifestyle that provides me what I need and pretty much all that I want so long as I’m patient and balance my finances sensibly. I wouldn’t trade my life for hers for any dollar amount.

Complaining that she can’t support 8 kids on a nurse’s salary?? Wasn’t she a nurse when she set out to have multiples when she already had twins (i.e. fertility treatments are associated with multiples)?? Was she anticipating the TLC gig at that point? I doubt it.

As someone already pointed out, she does receive child support. I think it’s time for her to resume a normal life and realize that showbiz is not the real world.

LMAO!! Kate said she was going to work her fingers to the bone to provide for her children yet she won’t go back to nursing. Wow another lie from Kate G. @SMH: great comment and I couldn’t agree more. My kids were raised with the basics and they are well adjusted and educated adults with amazing social skills……. something Kate Gosselin lacks. When my son was little he said he would never want to be rich because then he would have nothing to work for. I have heard my kids say they had the best childhood ever and they grew up in a 1000 sq. foot home and dressed in clothes from Walmart. Kids need love, tons of emotional support, close family ties, dicipline, education, good food and a roof over their head. They also need there precious privacy!

I don’t think she is eligible for welfare. She made millions of dollars with her TV shows, books, appearances and so on – unless she has blown it all, she has a good-sized nest egg tucked away somewhere (and if you don’t believe me, check out the entertainment industry’s newsletters, which give pretty accurate estimates of how much people earn from various TV shows and other ventures. It ain’t chicken feed).

My aunt lives in Reading, PA, and is a nurse. She used to work with Kate before she got on TV. She said Kate wanted people to feel sorry that she was having six kids at once and Kate wanted people to buy her a stroller. She got mad when no one did and she was very rude. Kate should just keep her kids off of televison. Stop exploiting them! Let them live a normal life.

I had my last two kids at Reading Hospital, and one of my nurses from my last birth in June 2009, worked with her, and said that Kate’s church had gone out of their way to get donations of stuff for these babies that were coming, and she was totally ungrateful and wouldn’t take the stuff, because she wanted all NEW stuff for them.

What I would like to know is what makes Kate Gosselin think that her kids deserve the lifestyle they have. As a mother, she should think of downsizing her lifestyle. I am so tired of hearing “every thing I do is for my kids” or ” I will do anything to provide for my kids”. All we hear is “for my kids”. She says it so much that I think the only person she needs to convince of this…is herself.

Why should her kids have it any better than any other child. What makes them so special that they can’t live the lifestyle of the average child whose parents work regular jobs? Also, let’s not forget those poor children living in poverty, in the same country and/or state that Gosselin lives in, who deserve much more than they have. This isn’t about the kids…it’s about Gosselin and the extravagant lifestyle and media attention. She thinks the world revolves around her and can’t handle living a lifestyle of the regular American family.

What we all have to remember is the children are the ones who made the show what it was, thus Gosselin basked in the stardom at her childrens’ expense. We have viewed some, what I would deem, inappropriate/embarrassing circumstances for which these children will always have hanging over their heads. Let’s not forget that Gosselin has made a full blown ass of herself with her bitch attitude. Oh yes, Kate, the world revolves around you but only in your mind. It’s about time you wake up and smell reality.

Many of us are struggling to make ends meet. I lost my job of 15 years, 4 years ago and we had to make adjustments accordingly. My husband lost his job of 24 years just last week. We have an 11 year old and don’t know what our future holds. These were factory jobs and we both worked very hard for our money. This is the real world. Not only do we real world people work but have to worry how long we will have that work. I wouldn’t sell my child nor expose her to the media in any way for money.

Kate, your kids are no better than all other kids in the world. Although they are not at fault for anything that’s happened, they aren’t above any other child in this world. What they need is a roof over their heads, food in their stomachs, clothes on their backs, and a few toys, etc. They also need parents to guide them and love them. Parents who will be there and not gone and being raised by nannies. They need your love Kate, if you even know the meaning of any love besides self love.

Back when I was growing up, our homes were very modest, our families large, our mothers home while dad’s worked. In my case, my mom left and my dad raised 3 kids, while working as a garbage man, and did a hell of a job. We didn’t have much but we had each other. My husband came from a family of 8 kids and was raised by his widowed mother. They lived a very modest lifestyle also. My point Kate….get off your high horse and mean what you say. You don’t deserve any more than anyone else.

Kate doesn’t want a “reality check”. She wants a “reality checque” at the expense of her kids. Whatever $$$ she may have stashed away will soon dry up maintaining her excessive lifestyle and the family compound in Wernersville. Child support from Jon? Bwaaahaahaha ! Now THAT’S funny !
