Jay-Z Says He "Can't Wait" To Be A Father

Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé are expecting their first child and the music mogul sounds like he’s truly looking forward to fatherhood.

“I can’t wait,” he told E! on Thursday night (November 17) at GQ’s Men of the Year party in West Hollywood.

Asked what type of dad he hopes to be, Jay-Z said he thinks communication is key. “Hopefully one that can have conversations,” he said. “Your child could come to you and have any type of conversation. I always hope for that kind of open relationship.”

The rapper, whose own father walked out on him as a child, refuses to be an absentee parent and says he’ll avoid spoiling his child with material things. “Providing—that’s not love,” he recently told GQ. “Being there—that’s more important.”

I find it weird to say that he can’t wait to be a father considering he already is a father. The baby is there, just not yet “outside”.

It’s not a baby yet, because it’s not born yet. No birth certificate, no baby.

Of course it’s a baby. If she lost it now, she would have to give birth to the child and it would be as traumatic as losing the baby a few days after birth. It really depends on how you see it, but the point is that a new life is created at conception and he therefore is a father the moment the child is conceived.

Maybe in your religion, but not everyone believes that. The government certainly doesn’t. Have you ever seen a birth certificate issued for a conception? Next time you’re pregnant, try to take a tax deduction for your dependent child, and see what the IRS says about it.

I find it weird that you are over-thinking what he said. Most people don’t equate actually being a “father” with simply impregnating a woman. Do you think he was a “father” the second the sperm hit the egg?

It’s pretty clear he’s talking about being a father in the sense of doing things with and for his child.

I just recently came across articles saying that Beyonce isn’t really pregnant and a surrogate is carrying their child, etc. Do a lot of people believe thats true? Ever since I read that I will admit that I have been paying closer attention and it does seem she has no belly one day and a belly the next. If she is using a surrogate I’m wondering why she doesn’t just admit it. I don’t think its anything to be ashamed of.

All of the ignorant comments about this couple are just painful to watch. And I’m not even a fan of either of them.

Funny how white celebrities never have to defend their pregnancies. These two are super celebrities, why would they need to fake a pregnancy?

@ LaKesha: What about Katie Holmes? Or Kelly Preston? There were definitely suspicions about them being pregnant. Don’t make this a race thing. As a woman of color, when you pull out the race card frivolously, it makes us all look bad.
