Guy Ritchie: I'm Glad I Married Madonna

Although Guy Ritchie and Madonna split in 2008, the director says he has no regrets over their time together and is grateful for their marriage because of their children – sons Rocco, 11, and David Banda, 6.

“I enjoyed my first marriage. It’s definitely not something I regret,” he told Details of his eight-year union with the pop queen. “The experience was ultimately very positive. I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take. But you move on, don’t you?”

Guy – who recently became a father again when girlfriend Jacqui Ainsley gave birth to a boy – says his life’s triumphs and failures helped him gain perspective. “When you end up with a lot of the things you set out to chase and find that you’ve stumbled into all sorts of hollow victories, then you become deeply philosophical. I’m quite happy that that experience was accelerated for me. I’m glad I made money, in other words. And I’m glad I got married.”

However, the Sherlock Holmes director admitted their marriage wasn’t always an easy one. “I stepped into a soap opera, and I lived in it for quite a long time. I’ll probably be more eloquent on it 10 years from now,” he said.

“I’m glad I made money, in other words.” How awful. He should just keep his mouth shut. Madonna is the mother of his children, he should have some decency. He loved the many millions he took from her despite stating he would not take any money. She should’ve had a pre-nuptial agreement, but she was very much in love with him and didn’t plan on ever divorcing. She didn’t even take any of the money he earned in the marriage when she could’ve.

He also said in that interview he doesn’t value education. Of course he wouldn’t, he never had to struggle in life since he grew up wealthy and then dropped out of school as a teen to pretend to be a street thug. Madonna had to work for everything she’s earned in life and she was also a straight-A student (she even earned a scholarship to a university), so education is important to her. I’m glad she has full custody of the children instead of him, at least she bothers to actually parent and is actually good at it from all accounts.

He and Madonna adopted David together, while still married. Madonna adopted the little girl after her and Guy were divorced/separated.
