Mindy McCready says that she and her 5-year-old son Zander are doing just fine, despite reports this morning that the pair have gone missing.
According to the Associated Press a missing persons report was filed with the police when the 36-year-old singer and her son seemingly disappeared late Tuesday night after she picked him up from her parents’ Cape Coral, Florida home. Though Mindy has visitation rights, her parents have legal custody of Zander.
The ‘Ten Thousand Angels’ crooner, though, tells Access Hollywood that she and Zander are safe, saying, “I am working with lawyers to try to get all this straightened out. I did not steal my child, as it would be impossible for me to kidnap what already belongs to me! There was never any missing persons report and never an Amber Alert.”
She also took to Facebook to tell fans, “My son is not missing…. I have been fighting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring hime home. Please do not worry.”
A judge has ordered Mindy, who has faced serious struggles in her personal life including addiction and suicide attempts, to return Zander by 5pm on Thursday. A representative of the Cape Coral Police says that she is aware of the court order, adding, “The million dollar question is whether she will comply.”
