Debra Messing: Still Living With Ex For Sake Of Her Son

Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman announced on Tuesday (December 20) that they were separating after over ten years of marriage, saying through a rep that “They remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”

Now we are seeing how committed they are – a source tells Us that the former couple “have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman,” their 7-year-old son.

The family recently relocated from Los Angeles to NYC, where Messing has been filming Smash, the new NBC series due in February. Making their living arrangements feasible is the fact that the couple’s split has been “very amicable,” according to the source.

As recently as November the former Will & Grace star talked about her family’s holiday plans. “We love to go skating at Wolman rink, and go see plays…Looking forward to putting on the snowsuit and stomping through Central Park,” she gushed.

I’m confused about a separation occurring near a year ago when the couple continues to live together. I think this is usually a guilt-game played by one partner under the guise of “it’s better for our son” but it’s really all about a property and financial settlement and guilting the other person into insisting on breaking up the family for his/her own selfish happiness and the obstinance of a partner who refuses to leave their own home even when commanded, asked or begged. How odd to announce they are “separating” when they are living together as an intact family. I wonder if they’ve made the announcement to their son yet. I guess they want us to know they’re both available for dating even though they still live together.
