Amber Portwood will be spending her Christmas behind bars.
Radar Online reports that a Madison County, Indiana judge has ordered the 21-year-old Teen Mom star to stay in jail until at least January 27, following her December 16th arrest, with Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Hopper arguing that “to do anything different” than keeping Portwood imprisoned until her evidentiary hearing “would send the wrong message to the defendant and send the wrong message to the community.”
Amber appeared before Circuit Court Judge David Happe on Friday morning (December 23) via video conference, visibly upset upon hearing that she wouldn’t be released in time for Christmas.
According to her brother, Shawn Portwood, Amber was looking forward to spending the holiday with her family, including her 3-year-old daughter, Leah, who remains in the custody of her father, Gary Shirley.
Portwood was arrested on December 16th after probation officers visited her home and conducted a random drug test, which she failed.
In addition to a list of probation violations, Portwood is also accused of committing two new felonies — battery, after a fight with another girl at a restaurant, and possession of a controlled substance.
