Actress Denise Richards may have spent a good portion of the Christmas holidays with ex-husband and troubled actor Charlie Sheen and their two daughters Lola, 6, and Sam, 7 but that’s only because the Finding Bliss star feels they are now functioning more as family than foe.
“We’ve actually become like brother and sister, we really have,” Denise admits to Access Hollywood. “We’ve become very, very good friends and we wanted to have a trip with our daughters – and it’s Christmas for them, so it’s good. When we all spend time together, it’s great for the kids and for us too. We actually get along.”
“It’s our ‘Modern Family,’ I suppose,” she adds. “Things are good. It was for the kids and it was a nice trip for all of us.”
The busy mom – who will appear on two episodes of 30 Rock this season and has also recently designed a pump called the Eloise currently on sale for charity – reveals that the way she and Charlie get along is by focusing on their family.
I think [the key is] making it about the kids. The stuff between the couple — if you’re divorced — it’s no longer about you anymore. You have to be the bigger person and make it about the kids and so that’s what we’re doing.”
Denise continues to say what a blessing little Eloise has been to her family after adopting her last year.
“I love being a mom more than anything and I just knew that I wasn’t done and Eloise found me another way. She’s just such a blessing to me and my family,” Denise says.
“[Lola and Sam] actually fight over feeding her and picking out her outfits and all of that,” she continues. “My daughters are very nurturing and they’re so in love with her and she’s just been such a wonderful blessing.”
