Janet Jackson: Paris Should Wait To Get Into The Entertainment Industry

Thirteen-year-old Paris Jackson is following in her father's famous footsteps, already having landed a role in the upcoming fantasy film Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys. But if her aunt, Janet Jackson, had her say, Paris would be spending her teenage years a little differently.

"I'd prefer for her to wait," Janet (Miss Jackson if you're nasty) told talk show host Jay Leno during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show. "I think she should enjoy her youth."

Of course, being a child star is something that the singer and actress knows a lot about.

Janet got into the entertainment industry at age 7, appearing alongside her brothers - The Jackson 5 - in Las Vegas, then moving on to television roles, and eventually launching her own successful singing career.

"You're only young once and [I want her] to really have a wonderful time and enjoy it," Jackson explains. "She has the rest of her life to be an adult and she should study. She should go to school and study the craft and think about college and maybe study abroad, acting, and then when she becomes 18 she could dive into it if she wants."

Tell us what you think.... Should Paris Jackson hold off on her acting career, or is it okay for her to start now?

wow, i think she makes sense; because in the industry there will always be people that will try to destroy your life.

Based on how much Michael tried to protect them and how he felt he himself missed out on a childhood I believe if he were alive Paris would not be getting into acting right now. She's got plenty of time to do all of that. Then again if it's truly a passion of hers why stand in the way. I just hope it's her drive and not someone else in the families!

The JaCKSON kids are all authorities when it comes to losing their childhood to a show business career. I hope all her nieces and nephews listen to her and heed her valuable advice.

I think Paris feels that the message of the movie would make her dad happy, but I really do think he'd want them to wait. He once told Barbara Walters somewhere between the births of Prince and Paris that if his son (and likely any of his children) wanted to get into the business, he'd lay it all out for them, tell them what to look out for, etc...and how to do things the right way. I don't think he'd be against them acting, but I do think he'd be absolutely against the way the kids have been pushed into the spotlight in the way that they have. I think Paris is a smart young lady, but she's just 13, and we all know what it's like to be 13, so I hope that she has SOMEONE looking out for her while she does this movie.

If she wants to act...that is fine. But do school plays. There is no reason to be getting into Hollywood. She can still act...without all the glitz if it really is her passion.

this is the first blog that i have seen that people are not being nasty and rude, with that being said i agree with everyone if michael was alive she would not be doing this movie. i think that janet has her best interest at heart BUT she is being raised by her grandmother not janet so there is not mush she can do to keep her out of the spotlight

For Paris the question is: should she start her carrer now or later?
For over 99% of other girls who also want to act the answer is: this will never happen.
Very unfair.

yeah, really. but a rich, privileged white girl has all the advantages in the world

Boy you really can't help yourself can you? How do you know she's white? Just by looking at her? Then you're pretty damn ignorant. This is 2012, not 1912. Educate yourself.

through your ignorance i see a point. ignoring the fact that she partially white, perhaps she does feel privileged. Or maybe she thought this would make he father happy. I really dont think she should do this. Maybe start small instead of jumping in a movie, but is her choice, let her screw up, that's the only way to learn. I just dont want to see her get hurt but its inevitable.
