Bérénice Bejo and director hubby Michel Hazanavicius may have both received Academy Award nominations for their work in The Artist, but when it comes to celebrating the honors, the couple will likely keep things low-key, thanks to their 3 1/2-year-old son, Lucien, who doesn’t quite understand what all the fuss is about.
“He doesn’t understand what Mommy and Daddy do,” Bejo tells People. “For him, Michel’s work is saying, ‘Action!’
One time, he came to set [while I was filming a scene] and thought my job was running. He said to me, ‘Mommy’s work is running.’ We haven’t talked to him about the truth yet.”
That’s not to say that there won’t be any celebrating. Bérénice says that she and her husband will at least toast to one another accomplishments before this “crazy” day is over.
“We’ll definitely open a very good bottle of wine – my son will have apple juice – and everybody is going to be happy,” shares the actress. “Then we wake up at 4 a.m. to give my daughter her bottle.”
Bejo and Hazanavicius welcomed baby Gloria in September of 2011.
For the Hollywood couple, the matching Oscar nods aren’t likely to change many things, as they plan to continue to live the somewhat normal lives they’ve been enjoying for years now.
“We go buy diapers and milk. Those things keep us really connected to reality,” says Bejo, who adds, “Then at the same time, critics from all around the world want to talk to us. It’s unreal!”
