One of the contestants on Sunday’s episode of American Idol‘s audition tour in San Diego, Calif., made it through to Hollywood but already has some experience dealing with life in Tinseltown – Jane Carrey, the 24-year-old daughter of Jim Carrey.
The aspiring singer – who sang Bonnie Raitt’s Something To Talk About – said she wanted to prove herself without capitalizing on her famous pedigree. “The last name definitely helps and hurts,” said Jane, mom to nearly 2-year-old Jackson with ex Alex Santana. “There’s this pressure to be better because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying ‘you only got there because of [your name].”
While in the judges’ room Jennifer Lopez reminisced about meeting Jane as a child – Jennifer worked with Jane’s dad on In Living Color. “You remember me? I was one of the Fly Girls?!” Jennifer said, referring to her stint as a dancer on the popular 90’s comedy sketch show.
For his part, Jim couldn’t be prouder of his only child. “She’s so wonderful and amazing to me,” Jim told Ryan Seacrest after his daughter auditioned. “I can’t wait for the world to understand what she has inside of her. This is going to be a fantastic year.”
