Reps for Beyoncé and Jay-Z may have declined to comment about the rumor that the couple asked Oprah Winfrey to serve as godmother to their newborn daughter, Blue Ivy, but someone is talking…. Oprah’s BFF Gayle King. And according to Gayle, if Ms. Winfrey was bestowed the honor, she doesn’t know it yet!
“It’s absolutely not true that she’s the godmother,” King explained Friday (January 27) on CBS This Morning.
“She’s friends with them, of course, and likes them both very much. She’s working on sending them a baby gift. She hasn’t even had time to send a baby gift because she’s been away,” Gayle continued, before clarifying:
Let me just say, if [that report is] true, it is news to her. It is news to her. You know, she was heading to South Africa when the baby was born.”
The rumors began after a report from hip-hop gossip site MediaTakeOut.com declared that Bey and Jay had selected the former Queen of Daytime TV as their daughter’s godmother, with the rapper’s best friend, Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith being tapped as godfather, claiming that the couple didn’t want to name individuals who are related to them.
So with Oprah out (for now) and no word on “Ty Ty,” if you could choose celebrity godparents for Blue Ivy, who would they be?
