Nicole Richie Talks Family & Fame

Former wild child Nicole Richie has traded in late nights for early mornings. The mom-of-two says she rises at the crack of dawn each day just so she can have a little bit of alone time.

“I wake up at 5:30 in the morning, every morning, so I can be alone,” admits the Fashion Star mentor, who graces the cover of the April issue of Flare magazine. “I don’t have anywhere to be, but mentally, I like to go downstairs and drink my coffee … I’m telling you, it changes my entire day.”

Her days are definitely busy: Not only is she a hands-on mom to her kids Harlow, 4, and Sparrow, 2, but she has her own accessories and clothing collections and is very involved in The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation, which she started with her husband Joel Madden. Nicole has earned herself a lot of admirers, but she seems to take issue with the idea of celebrities serving as role models.

“I was just talking to a friend of mine who has two little girls about a certain singer whose name I won’t mention,” she explains. “He was really upset, saying she wasn’t a good role model for his kids. But here’s the thing: that girl is 20-something, so she shouldn’t be a role model to your little girls. She’s human, and it’s unrealistic to put people on a pedestal and expect that they’re not going to make mistakes.”

As for her own kids, Nicole and Joel want them to have as normal a childhood as possible.

“[Harlow] has no idea that she has two lines named after her,” she reveals. “I try and let her be a kid.”

Rihanna. ITA with Nicole but the dude sounds like he’s just recently decided he doesn’t want Rihanna as a role model when she never has been suitable in my opinion for a young girl to emulate. Her, Nikki Minoj(sp), Kei$ha and the rest. I see parents thinking its cute as a button to film their little kids mimicking these people and it makes me sick. Bravo Nicole for spilling truth.
