Whitney Houston‘s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, told Oprah Winfrey her late mother was her “everything,” and that her grief “comes in waves” following the singer’s death last month.
I’m doing as good as I possibly can at this point. I’m just trying to keep going,” the 19-year-old told the talk show queen on Oprah’s Next Chapter. “I can sing her music, but to hear it now, I can’t. I can hear her voice telling me, ‘Keep moving, baby. I got you.’ She’s always with me. I can always feel her with me. She used to always say, ‘Do you need me?’ And I said, ‘I always need you.’”
“She’s always with me,” Bobbi Kristina, the sole heiress to Whitney’s fortune, told Oprah of her late mother. “Her spirit is strong, it’s a strong spirit. I can hear her voice in spirit talking to me — ‘I’m right here, I’ve got you’ — I can always feel her with me. I feel her pass through me all the time.
Bobbi Kristina admitted it’s been a difficult process.
It comes in waves: One moment I can be happy and laughing, but then it comes over me,” Bobbi Kristina told Oprah. “Sometimes, it’s so surreal. I still walk into the house like, ‘Mom?’ But I’ve accepted it.”
She went on to describe her last hours with her mother.
“The very last day, it was so early in the morning I went to go and get her I was like, ‘Will you come and lay down with me?’” she recalled. “She was rubbing my head, and I slept in her arms all day and all night long.”
Bobbi Kristina said she hopes “to carry on the legacy” through her own singing and acting career. “I still have a voice – yeah we are going to do the singing thing, we are going to do the singing and the acting,” she said. “It’s a lot of pressure, but she prepared me for it.”
Reportedly, the troubled teen is hoping to change her last name from Brown to Houston. TMZ reports that Bobbi wanted to change her name for several years, but her mother would let her. Bobbi’s father is troubled singer, Bobby Brown.
