It seems actress Jennifer Westfeldt has the pitter patter of little feet running through her mind lately.
After writing, directing and starring in the flick Friends With Kids, the 42-year-old actress began to wonder why she and her longtime love Jon Hamm never started a family together.
“I’ve thought about this a lot lately,” the Kissing Jessica Stein star reveals to the New York Times. “I never thought I’d be this age and not have kids, but my life has also gone in a million ways I never anticipated.”
When it comes to the decision to have a baby, Jennifer feels that pivotal moment has yet to come.
“I kept feeling like I’d wake up with absolute clarity, and I haven’t,” she admits. “And we have a pretty great life together. The chance that we’ll regret it doesn’t seem like a compelling enough reason to do it.
“I may wake up tomorrow with that lighting bolt, and I’ll have to scramble to make it happen,” Jennifer adds.
However enticing the thought of having a child may be, the star realizes the potential it has to change the dynamic of the relationship.
“Best intentions aside, [having kids] always changes your friendship, at least that first year or so, in a way that I think is painful for both of you.”
Jennifer has been together with Jon, 41, since 1997. Friends With Kids – which also stars Adam Scott, Megan Fox and Maya Rudolph – is in theaters now.
