When grandma is Martha Stewart, your first birthday is bound to be quite the soiree!
Last Thursday, Martha, 70, and her daughter Alexis, 46, hosted an intimate celebration at Perry St. restaurant in New York City to toast Alexis’ daughter Jude‘s first birthday, PEOPLE reports.
Catered by legendary chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and his son Cedric (the executive chef at the eatery), the pièce de résistance was a trio of homemade birthday cakes in a variety of flavors topped with marzipan animals.
The party had whimsical touches in keeping with the invitation, which had a quote from poet A.A. Milne, “When I was one, I had just begun…” The main table was decorated with Steiff stuffed animals since Martha is a longtime collector. There were also handmade wooden and paper alphabet blocks with clear helium balloons hovering overhead.
And while they were gathering for Jude – whom Alexis welcomed via surrogate after trying five years to conceive a baby – there was even more reason to celebrate! Alexis just welcomed her second child. Almost exactly a year later, on March 6, her joy doubled when her son Truman was born.
Last year Alexis said that “just getting Jude was lucky.” The new mom-of-two also admitted that she hoped for more children – especially a son.
“There’s too many girls in the family,” she joked. “You need a boy.”
