Kimberly Stewart & Delilah: Starbucks Stop

Kimberly Stewart & Delilah: Starbucks Stop

Kimberly Stewart, 32, and her 7-month-old daughter Delilah – who was wearing a helmet for today’s outing – were seen grabbing a coffee at Starbucks at the Beverly Glen center in Los Angeles, Calif. The model mommy – who shares the same birthday as her darling daughter – laughed as her girl friend carried sweet Delilah out of the famous coffee shop.

“I love being a mother,” the daughter of Rod Stewart recently told Hello! magazine. “It’s the greatest experience of my life. It gets better every day. Delilah is starting to smile; she’s the perfect little angel.”

“She definitely looks like her dad, but she has my legs and eye color,” she adds.

Although Kimberly and Delilah’s father actor Benicio Del Toro, 45, are no longer together, she insists he’s still a presence in their daughter’s life.

“Benicio’s very involved,” Kimberly claims. “He and Delilah have a very special bond.”

Kimberly’s ex-boyfriend Jack Osbourne is currently expecting his first child with fiancée Lisa Stelly sometime this month.

    She’s really a sweet-faced baby.

Anyone know why she’s wearing a helmet?

She probably has plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome, it’s treated by wearing a helmet.

Aw, I hope it’s not because she has a flat head. As you probably know, it’s most commonly caused by a baby just left lying on it’s back for long periods. I’d hate to think little Delilah (or any baby) is being neglected like that. x

You are correct in that babies who are neglected and left in crib/seat for hours on end get flat head syndrome. But you are not correct in saying that babies who have flat head syndrome are usually neglected. The reason babies have flat head syndrome is because babies sleep on their backs now, more than ever so it has become more common. If you think about, small infants sleep A LOT….sometimes 18 hours a day. And since they are mostly doing it on their backs now it makes sense that this would happen to more babies than it did 20 years ago.

i hear you & this may not be considered ‘confirmed’ per se, but based on his history with ‘pieces’ like kimmy, i tend to believe the statement saying that ks knew where Benicio stood from the beginning and that he made it ‘crystal clear’ to her that all he wanted was a ‘no-strings-attached’ fling….sounds reasonable and ha, i personally don’t believe he could have anything serious going on with someone like her…from what she’s shown, nothing much going on ‘upstairs’

The helmets are usually for flat head syndrome or occasionally epileptic fits. More likely the former. Once hair grows longer the visual effect will improve but they obviously want to stop her only lying on her flat spot which children do automatically if they have them.

Yeah — probably “flat head syndrome”. It’s actually becoming more and more common, supposedly because of the back-to-sleep syndrome. The helmet is inconvenient, but the treatment works, as far as I know…

The helmets are generally used because now that babies are always put on their backs to sleep (to help prevent SIDS) they get a flat spot. The helmet is to reshape the head to the natural rounded shape. Once the infant is rolling over and sitting up more, they usually stop wearing them.

The helmet is for plagiocephaly, flattened head caused by position or in my sons case torticollis (shortened neck muscle). The helmet helps reshape the head. Usually worn until 1 year. My son had one for 5.5 months.

It’s a shame that people have been made to feel so paranoid about baby sleeping on it’s tummy. A generation ago, that’s how everyone slept, and now it’s different. I’m convinced someone will say that actually it doesn’t matter how baby sleeps (everyone knows they sleep so soundly on their fronts). And it’s actually the advancement of scans that can spot congenital diseases, the fact that chemicals in mattress are strictly regulated now and that there is less smoking, that really make a difference to tragic cases of SIDS. Otherwise there is a whole new market for products for ‘flat head’ syndrome. Unnecessary.

It’s called science….and it shows pretty clearly that babies who sleep on their backs have lower rates of SIDS – even after you remove the risk factors you cited.

*Even after you remove the risk factors you cited* – Sorry to correct you, but they make a HUGE difference. It is not negligible. 30 years ago, people were not having routine scans at all. Today, the tiniest thing can be picked up (if lucky) heart problems, lung problems etc. I think it is a well meaning campaign, definitely – but one which is worth questioning. It’s not scienc – I’m sorry to disagree. The fact is that we just really really don’t know yet. It’s tragic, of course. This is *current* thinking and medical guidelines are subject to change, and I think this one just does not make much sense to me.

you seem to be an ‘anonymous nobody’…just because someone is anonymous on the internet doesn’t mean they aren’t knowledgeable regarding a subject, and you don’t know what professional background people have…also, for your information, medical professionals/science researchers have been known to have differing opinions…and over time, medical/scientific recommendations have been known to change, usually based on more findings or a re-interpretation of old findings…for that reason, not everyone ‘bows’ without question to every so-called new finding, etc.

The sad part is that you cannot win.

Put baby on stomach risk baby dying of SIDS (although I’ve known kids to die of SIDS laying on backs).

Put baby on back and risk baby spitting up and choking. That’s why they actually recommend babies sleep on sides or in upright position.

To the person above who said it’s probably bc she was neglected your really being ignorant. I have known 2 children in these helmets and their parents did not neglect them! They simply as others have stated spent more time sleeping on the backs of their heads. Some babies will have a flat head but it can reshapen without the use of a helmet buy making sure you turn the childs head position while they sleep.

SHM: Are you serious? Babies don’t choke on their vomit or spit. It just doesn’t happen. If they spit up while they’re lying on their backs, they simply sputter or toss their heads over and that’s that. It’s vomit, not water-boarding. And “they” don’t recommend side-sleeping or upright sleeping unless baby has painful reflux. The medical profession and the WHO agree that babies are safest sleeping on their backs, and do not advocate the use of sleep wedges to keep babies on their sides.

I wish people wouldn’t just assume that this woman neglected her child by leaving her in her crib for too long. Plagiocephaly, or flat-head syndrome, can occur in as little as a few hours. There is even some evidence that babies can suffer from painful kinks in their necks which leave them unable to turn their heads.
This woman is clearly doing something right since the child is being treated.

It is called plagiocephaly and it is NOT FROM BEING NEGLECTED. There are many causes including, being a multiple, torticolis, being positioned against bone in utero, or simply a result of laying a certain way (for any length of time). Insinuating a parent is neglecting their child because of a birth defect (plagiocephaly is considered by the APA to be a birth defect) is pretty foul and demonstrates such a profound lack of intelligence that it baffles my mind.

i doubt the people commenting would suggest neglect SOLELY based on the helmet; it’s more likely based kimmy’s personal history of laziness…there’s a difference…personally, i don’t believe it’s neglect, simply because–fortunately–the little girl has a nanny…also, many mental health professionals believe that one of the best predictors of future behavior is past behavior…therefore, based on kimmy’s history, it wouldn’t indicate a ‘profound lack of intelligence’ at all, as you try to suggest…in THIS case, it would simply indicate an educated guess (even if it is wrong)…don’t let yourself get baffled so easily

My son has just finished with his helmet treatment for plagiocephaly. To all the ignorant people who would like to believe it was caused by neglect it was actually caused as he was born 8 weeks early and spent the first month lying in a neonatal cot in the hospital, plagiocephaly is common in premature babies as the skull is so soft. Putting a helmet on your baby is not a decision made lightly or easily by any new parent.
