Fashion Star mentor Nicole Richie and her rocker husband Joel Madden were photographed enjoying some surf and sun at a local beach in Santa Monica, Calif. with their two children Harlow, 4, and 2-year-old Sparrow on Monday (April 9).
The 30-year-old socialite looked comfy after she slipped into an orange bohemian-style pantsuit and played with her kids. The family-of-four spent most of their time lounging in the sand, building sand castles, and snapping some precious family shots. When the day was done, Joel carried a tuckered Sparrow back to the car while Nicole walked hand-in-hand with her young daughter.
Nicole was recently spotted getting into the Easter spirit by taking Harlow to a colorfully-clad park in Los Angeles, Calif. The mother-daughter duo were seen enjoying the sunshine as Harlow played by a giant polka dot tulip.

Sparrow looks like a friggin girl but then again so do most boys in Hollyweird. That must be the in thing – make your son look like a daughter.

Gender roles are NOT law. Boys don’t HAVE to have short hair and wear blue clothes.
It could be a trend, it could be their personal preference.
In every photo of my brothers and sisters from the 70s, my brothers all had longer hair than my sister and I did. Nobody ever mistook them for girls.
That’s funny. At one time in the 70′s my husband had longer hair than I did too as did my brother. There was certainly no gender issues there.
Harlow and Sparrow could pass off as twins. Similar height and such. Reminds me of my brother and I when we were small.
