Disney star Tiffany Thornton, 26, is “so excited to be a mom.” The So Random! actress and husband Christopher Carney expect their first child this summer, and she says it is her “lifelong dream” to be a mother “and Chris couldn’t possibly be happier to be a father.”
In her first interview since announcing her pregnancy, the Sonny With a Chance star opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about feeling “great,” her healthy cravings and minimal weight gain, and her upcoming projects. The mom-to-be also shares her health scare with Meningitis and her upcoming concert “to help raise awareness about the disease and the availability of the meningitis vaccine.”
CBS: Tell us all about your upcoming concert to raise awareness about Meningitis.
TT: “I wanted to get a group of my friends together to put on a fun concert for our fans and when my friends said they were available, I knew it was perfect! This past year I was able to be a part of the Voices Of Meningitis Campaign to help raise awareness about the disease and the availability of the meningitis vaccine.”
CBS: We hear this cause is very important to you because you were diagnosed with Meningitis at the age of 19 and spent ten days in the hospital fighting for your life. Tell us about your experience.
TT: “Meningitis is a communicable disease so it is transferred via sharing a drinking glass, kissing, being in close quarters, etc. It has a sudden on-set much like the flu and can take a life within 24 hours. The symptoms consist of headache, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, severe neck pain and rash.
It was a terrifying experience for me, and like you said above, I spent ten days in the hospital fighting for my life. It is important to me that I encourage people to ask questions and have that open dialogue with their pediatrician or school nurse. You can go to VoicesOfMeningitis.org or the Facebook page Raise Your Voice Against Meningitis.”
CBS: Congratulations on your pregnancy! How are you feeling?
TT: “Thank you so much! I am so excited to be a mom. It is my lifelong dream and Chris couldn’t possibly be happier to be a father. We are so blessed. It has been a great pregnancy for me! I have been very fortunate.”
CBS: Do you know the gender? Do you have any names picked out?
TT: “We do know the gender and have the name but aren’t ready to announce that yet.”
CBS: Do you have any crazy pregnancy cravings? Have you been gaining lots of weight? Are you worried about losing the weight afterwards? Have you been working out?
TT: “My only craving up to this point has been nectarines. The baby loves healthy food, praise God! I haven’t gained much weight even though I feel like I look like I do. I’m a little over halfway through my pregnancy and have only gained 7 pounds.
I am not worried about losing weight afterwards because every woman in my family bounced back really well after giving birth. I’ve made it a point to be healthy and active during my pregnancy and I believe that will help with losing the baby weight afterwards.”
CBS: What do you have to say to the critics who call you too young to have a baby?
TT: “I am 26-years-old, so I don’t listen to them. I do not in any way believe that I am too young. I am ready to be a mom and God blessed us at the perfect time. Afterall, his timing is always perfect.”
CBS: Have you met fellow Disney star, Hilary Duff‘s, newborn son Luca Cruz?
TT: “No I have not.”
CBS: What’s up next for you?
TT: “I am still very busy working on new projects. I have a new jewelry with my sister-in-law Sarah, I am working on my country music album, preparing for the show at the Roxy April 22nd, developing a baby clothing line, writing a children’s book, working on my cookbook, developing a design show and a few more things.
What can I say? I love to work!”
Tiffany will appear at the ROXY in West Hollywood, Calif. on April 22 to raise awareness for Meningitis. For more information about the show, go to TheRoxyOnSunset.com.
