It looks like Ioan Gruffudd is really enjoying being a daddy.
During an appearance on The Rachael Ray Show airing Thursday (April 12), the 38-year-old Ringer actor opens up about his 2-year-old daughter Ella and how much he loves being a first-time father.
“Ella’s very, very strong,” the Welsh actor reveals. “She’s like her mother [actress Alice Evans, 40], so I’ve got my work cut out for me at home.”
“She’s insistent on not going in her bed right now,” he continues.
Ioan – who met his wife on the set of 102 Dalmatians in 2000 and married seven years later in Mexico – recently had some extra bonding time with his precious princess while Alice was filming The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta, Georgia.
“The last time she was there for 10 days,” he says. “I had Ella the entire time, playing ‘super dad.’ It’s very exciting. I love it. I can’t get over what great company [a child] can be.”
Now that Ella can “form full sentences,” the couple are realizing how quickly their little girl is growing up. “That evolution is just beautiful to us.”
Ioan also admits that although there is a child-friendly play room on the Ringer set (co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar has 2-year-old Charlotte), Ella prefers another environment to hang out in.
“My daughter comes to set and she’s like, ‘No, no daddy. Trailer! Daddy’s trailer!’” he says. “She wants to play in the trailer.”
Ioan is perhaps best known for playing the role of Horatio Hornblower in the British made-for TV series Hornblower based on C. S. Forester’s novels. His most recent notable film roles include Lancelot in King Arthur, Mister Fantastic in Fantastic Four and the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Tony Blair in W.
