Vanessa Williams Talks About “Frightening” Teenage Pregnancy & Abortion

Depserate Housewives star Vanessa Williams recently opened up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a 10-year-old school girl and now the 49-year-old mother-of-four is revealing details about her high school pregnancy and abortion.

"Being pregnant is the most frightening thing that happens in your life," Vanessa divulges during an emotional interview with ABC’s Nightline. "I knew in high school that's something that I was not prepared to do, or fight, or struggle with."

Depserate Housewives star Vanessa Williams recently opened up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a 10-year-old school girl and now the 49-year-old mother-of-four is revealing details about her high school pregnancy and abortion.

“Being pregnant is the most frightening thing that happens in your life,” Vanessa divulges during an emotional interview with ABC’s Nightline. “I knew in high school that’s something that I was not prepared to do, or fight, or struggle with.”

The actress goes on to correlate her early sexual activity with the molestation she suffered at the hands of a family friend when she was only ten years old.

“I think I was highly sexualized because I was in fifth grade and I had this experience,” she explains. “Because it feels good, you’re like, OK, well this is supposed to be normal. That’s not normal for a 10-year-old to be seduced.”

During her appearance on Nightline (Vanessa was accompanied by her mother Helen Williams), Vanessa confesses that she underwent an abortion after she discovered she was pregnant because she was petrified to tell her parents.

Although the Ugly Betty star remained silent about the abuse for many years, she has decided to open up about her secret past in her upcoming memoir titled You Have No Idea.

In the autobiography, she also reveals that she allowed a photographer to take nude photos of her after he promised they would never be released.

“I started out on top of a cab and ended up in a studded collar upstairs an hour later,” Vanessa recalls. “That was my joke, saying, you know, ‘How could I go from this trusting, you know, photo shoot, to being in S&M clothing within the same shoot with a guy I didn’t know.’”

In the end, the photographer didn’t keep his word and Vanessa was transported from the stage of Miss America to the pages of Penthouse, leading to a sex scandal that cost the beauty queen her crown.

“I’ve learned to embrace my past. I embrace the choices that I have been given in my life,” she concludes.

Man, Vanessa wants attention, but her story is pretty common. She was a slutty and reckless teenager, got knocked up, went to a clinic and had the baby killed, then moved on with her life. Heck, one of my friends did that last month. With nearly a million abortions a year, how could this be a big deal? I know some people will say these celebrities being open about their abortions will lesson how other people judge, but the people who are going to judge will judge anyway. She’ll basically make herself look bad to some and ho-hum to others. Around here, my friends have abortion parties where they celebrate their “close calls.” This is not shocking to most young women, but for Vanessa, this revelation clearly is a way to get the attention that maybe her sexual abuse charges didn’t. I hope she gets some acting jobs out of all this sharing because it’s always sad when otherwise talented people try too hard.

This is honestly one of the most horrible things I have read on this site. How rude and heartless to say that this is not a big deal! Clearly you have never felt the pain and suffering of losing a child, it is the worst feeling in the world, being happy and pregnant one minute planning your future and the next sitting in a doctors office as they tell you that you beautiful innocent unborn baby is not longer with you, or the pain of carrying your child inside you for 9 months and going in to labor and then not hearing a cry….your child put into your arms not breathing or moving.

I am not seeking attention or sympathy but I am disgusted that sane person could have a party celebrating the death of a human being, yes, that’s what it is!

I personally think that what Vanessa went through was tragic and I am not saying that her having an abortion was horrible, she did what was right for her at that time, however the fact that she is speaking about it now should be a newsflash to young girls who become pregnant, an abortion clearly stays with you long after you leave the clinic, you don’t just “move on with your life”.

Sorry to have gone on forever but I cannot understand how a person could be so insensitive and brutal!

Wow, that’s the most disgusting thing I have ever read. I have had an abortion. It’s a horrible thing to go through but I made the right decision and have not come close to making that mistake again. Abortion parties? I bet anything you’re making this up because you’re nothing than an ignorant pro-lifer. Don’t talk about something you know nothing about. It is a big deal. It’s horrible but for some it’s a life line to start over and learn from their mistakes.

of course the first commentor is a man, I can tell because you can’t know what it feels like to have to deal with a baby growing inside you and having it aborted, and it is not common to be abused at 10 years old by a family friend and being manipulated as a young female in the fashion business.

By the way, having an abortion party is disgusting, celebrating the “close calls” makes abortion sound so emotionally care-free when in reality is a really tough decision

Commenter #1 you are obviously a “Pro-lifer” with your judgemental statements on “killing babies”… Last time I checked, the only judge that matters doesn’t reside on this earth. “You People” are beyond ridiculous.
