Hilary Duff: It’s A Fine Balance With Luca’s Nap Schedule

It's no sleep for Hilary Duff! She's experiencing sleep deprivation as a new mom to 5-week-old Luca.

She tells People, “The first week I was like, ‘I’m doing this, I’m good. I can not sleep. I can do this.’ I don’t know where you get that energy from. Then it hits you — the fatigue. So many people were like, ‘Take naps when your baby naps'. So I tried and it really helped a lot. I thought when he was napping that was the time I could do all the things I needed to do. It’s a fine balance.”

The 24-year-old actress says she’s lucky that Luca is no trouble at all.

She jokes, “I’m waiting for the tables to turn. I’m like, ‘How do I have this wonderful baby?’ My mom said when I came, she was like, ‘Where can I send you back?’ It was nothing like with (sister) Haylie.”

She adds that Luca is now smiling. However her husband Mike Comrie doesn’t see their son hitting that milestone yet.

He’s staring at your mouth when you talk to him [and] he laughs a little bit. My husband keeps telling me it’s gas and I’m like, ‘No, he loves us so much, he’s already smiling.”

She gushes, “You don’t realize it, you can’t understand it until it happens. You’re holding your baby and looking at him and your husband and thinking, ‘I would do anything for you.’”

Sleeping when your new baby sleeps is a serious peice of advise that should be taken to heart and rarely is. I was one of the few people I know who listened to that advise and I felt great after a few weeks whereas the other moms I’ve known took months to recover.

Agreed Jacquie109, I wish I had been able too but circumstances prevented it and I would have felt all the world better for having been able to nap when DS did. If we have another I am hoping I can!!

Not everyone can nap. For instance, I have suffered from insomnia my whole life and require some type of benzo plus Ambien just to fall asleep. And usually it takes at least an hour after that, no matter how exhausted I am. I wish I could have napped when he did. He also would only nap for around 30 min at a time, so not very useful for me :\.
