Happy Mother’s Day!
In celebration of moms everywhere, let’s take a look at Hollywood’s newest matriarchs who will celebrate their first Mother’s Day on May 13. From Beyoncé, to Hilary Duff, to January Jones, to Jessica Simpson, look through our list of 10 celebrity moms celebrating for the first time this year.
R&B royalty Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed daughter Blue Ivy on January 7, 2012. The superstar couple released a touching statement to announce the birth of their first child.
Hello Hello Baby Blue!” they stated. “We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”
- Hilary Duff:
Disney darling Hilary Duff and hockey star Mike Comrie welcomed their first child on March 20. “Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie! Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy,” Hilary announced via Twitter.
We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world,” the 24-year-old actress continued. “He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well.”

ummm i just have to say that my daughter may be the most bestest amazingest stupendoustest baby ever made in the history of the planet,” Pink gushed about her gorgeous girl via Twitter.
- January Jones:
January Jones gave birth to her first child, son Xander Dane, on September 13, 2011. While the Mad Men star has remained mum on the identity of Xander’s father, she’s been open about the joys of motherhood.
I think I went back to set six or seven weeks after, so he was really little,” January said. “I had the baby and the baby nurse in their own room so I could go back and feed him every two hours. If I felt like he needed me, or if he needed to eat, or even if I just needed a squeeze because I was having separation issues, I would go back and see him. It was such a blessing that I wasn’t separated from him.”
And not to mention eating those placenta pills!
I have a great doula who makes sure I’m eating well, with vitamins and teas, and with placenta capsulation,” she said. “Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins. It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas. It’s not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!”
- Selma Blair:
Cruel Intentions star Selma Blair and partner Jason Bleick welcomed their first child, son Arthur Saint, on July 25, 2011. And like most first-time moms, Selma admits she’s “really obsessed” with her sweet son.
I never want to leave his side,” she said. “I’m one of those hovering mothers and I know it’s really important to have an independent child, so I’m trying to back off, but it’s hard. I love him so much, and he’s so funny and cute to me.”
Soulful singer Jewel and husband Ty Murray welcomed first child, son Kase Townes, on July 11, 2011. The new mom opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about the joys of motherhood.
I love it! I really love it!” Jewel gushed of motherhood. “We worked hard to get pregnant and we really feel blessed to do it. It really does feel like a privilege. We both marvel every day and it seems like we’ve been given a gift that will take the rest of our lives to unwrap because every day something new and exciting unfolds.”
Has motherhood been a huge adjustment for the You Were Meant for Me singer?
Yes, it’s mind-altering!” she admitted. “You live your life – and especially as an older mom – you’ve established yourself, your ego, and everything according to who you’ve been before this. And then everything changes: your goals, your priorities, even what you have to juggle. It’s an amazing transformation. I just continue to have more and more respect for moms and for women in general.”
- Charlize Theron:
In March, Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron announced the adoption of her son Jackson. The new mom recently gushed about her baby boy and the joys of motherhood.
Jackson is incredible, the greatest gift. He is the coolest kid ever,” Charlize said. “I’ve always been very honest in saying I wanted a family,” she added. “I’ve always known I wanted a family. I don’t think my mom could wait any more!”
- Natalie Portman:
Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman and husband Benjamin Millepied welcomed their first child, son Aleph, in June 2011. While she’s remained mum on her publicly speaking of her sweet son, she admitted that being a mom has changed her style.
I’ve been trying to look more like a lady recently,” Natalie said. “I used to be happy in a T-shirt and sweatpants, and now I feel like I want to make myself a little more grown-up – now that I’m a mom.”
- Kristin Davis:
Sex and the City star Kristin Davis welcomed first child, daughter Gemma Rose, last August through domestic adoption.
I have been thinking about adoption for a long time,” Kristin said. “It had taken me a while to feel that I could take on parenthood by myself. It is a huge change in my life.”
The actress recently gushed about the joys of new motherhood.
I love it,” Kristin said of being a mom. “The only challenge is getting out of the house…I knew this would be true but you’re so attached and it’s just so fun to be there that it’s hard to go.”
- Jessica Simpson:
Singer/actress/entrepreneur Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed daughter Maxwell Drew on May 1. Born via C-section, baby Maxi weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs., 13 oz. The proud new mom took to Twitter earlier this week to gush over her 1-week-old daughter.
I am so in love with baby Maxwell. I want to cry every time I look at her. Motherhood is by far the best thing I’ve ever experienced,” Jess wrote.
