FOX News Channel correspondent Molly Henneberg, 38, and husband Chris Nagel welcomed their first child, daughter Jacquelyn Amanda Henneberg Nagel, in December.
The new mom opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about adjusting to motherhood and returning to work after a 4-month maternity leave and a “difficult recovery from her C-section.
CBS: Congratulations on welcoming your daughter on December 29th! How is she doing?
MH: “She is a delight – laughing, smiling, starting to recognize people! Unfortunately she still doesn’t like rides in the car, no matter what car seat we try.”
CBS: How has motherhood been treating you so far?
MH: “Everyone told us the first three months would be hard, but I don’t think we anticipated how difficult it would be. I had a difficult recovery from 26 hours of labor and then a C-section. It’s definitely getting to be more fun and manageable these days. It helps that my parents and Chris’ parents live within driving distance. They have been very willing to show us the ropes and also to babysit.
I was just telling my mother the other day that I’m not sure I’ll ever feel like I have this motherhood thing down pat. Baby Jacquelyn is changing so fast that I can hardly keep up. She already has 2 little bottom teeth! Where did my newborn go?”
CBS: How was your maternity leave? Did you miss working?
MH: “Maternity leave was four months. I was working pretty hard during those four months, but I missed everyone at Fox.”
CBS: How are you juggling both motherhood and your career now that you’ve returned to work?
MH: “I’ve only been back about three weeks, and it is working pretty well so far. We have wonderful babysitters who take care of Jacquelyn in the morning and early afternoon until either my husband and I can get home.
There is an informal community of working moms at Fox, and they reach out to women as they return back to the workplace after having a child and offer support, advice, and encouragement.
Jennifer Griffin, our Fox Pentagon Correspondent, is an incredible mom-of-three, and she helped me enormously with the adjustment. She also let me borrow her beautiful crib and changing table, which my daughter loves.”
