Natascha McElhone & Rex: Bike Buddies

Gorgeous mom-of-three Natascha McElhone spent some one-on-one time with son Rex, 3, in Los Angeles, Calif. on Tuesday (May 22). The pair soaked up the sun as they went for a fun bike ride alongside the beach in idyllic Santa Monica.

The Californication star is also mom to sons Theodore, 11, and Otis, 8. She became a single mom when her husband unexpectedly died of a fatal heart condition while she was pregnant with Rex.

The actress said of her sons’ late father,

He was the most unique father, as well,” Natascha shared. “Always giving our beautiful ‘pups’ the alternate answer to any question, stimulating them, provoking them…I could write about him for the rest of my life. The part that saddens me most is that, whatever I can try to give my boys, their world for now has been halved, I cannot become him…”

After her husband’s sudden death, she continued to write letters to him, sometimes documenting the daily events of life but also dealing with how she and their sons were coping with the loss. These letters and diary entries formed the basis of her book After You: Letters of Love, and Loss, to a Husband and Father which was published in July 2010.

That quote about her husband brought tears to my eyes, I really enjoy her as an actress and remember finding out that her husband had passed away and she was pregnant. Their sons are beautiful!

That quote from Natasha was beautiful. I’ll have to check out her book. Hard to believe their son is three already. My mom always said with kids, the days are long and the years are short.
