It seems the 51-year-old Hollywood star recently admitted to feeling embarrassed about his actions in public.

“I am constantly embarrassed by my own personality,” Sean reveals during an appearance on the Today show on Tuesday (May 29). “Maybe I have a strength in that as an actor.”

“I have a very tough time with people. It’s not that I’m totally antisocial, I just don’t want to socialize with the people I’ve already known,” Sean states, making reference to the fact he typically steers clear of his fellow celebrities.

Sean is also father to daughter Dylan with ex-wife Robin Wright.

It’s understandable to be embarrassed by some actions taken and as for me, during any of my bold actions, I am not embarrassed. Well, maybe one time out of a dozen. Lately though, I’ve been on a self alert lookout, or rather lookin, so that I can be more quiet about responding to people. The truth is that I have a bit of contempt for people, including my self at times. If I were Sean Penn, I would feel more free to continue my boldness. One could get shot these days for coming out and saying what’s on the mind, but one has got be one’s own self. If more people could speak their minds, we would have a healthier world. Part of todays’ problems are based on people NOT expressing their own selves and keeping that stiff upper lip and we need to address issues. It is a little risky, yet one must be bold or die inside. I prefer the integrity of Sean Penn’s ability to be totally intrepid when he needs to express himself.
