Happy Father’s Day!
In celebration of dads everywhere, let’s take a look at Hollywood’s newest patriarchs who will celebrate their first Father’s Day on Sunday. From Jay-Z, to Chris Hemsworth, to Benicio del Toro, to Hugh Grant, look through our list of 10 celebrity dads celebrating for the first time this year.
R&B royalty Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed daughter Blue Ivy on January 7, 2012. The superstar couple released a touching statement to announce the birth of their first child.
“Hello Hello Baby Blue!” they stated. “We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”
The Avengers star Chris Hemsworth welcomed first child, daughter India Rose, with his wife Elsa Pataky on May 11, 2012. The Snow White and the Huntsman actor said fatherhood has been smooth sailing so far.
“She’s been great,” Chris gushed of his newborn daughter. “She sleeps very well. Not out of any skill on my behalf, but my wife has been amazing.” The Aussie actor adds that fatherhood has already shifted his perspective: “Just her being here. It’s certainly taken all my focus and attention away from work — or what have you — but that’s the main thing on my brain right now. It’s wonderful.”
Academy Award-winning actor Benicio del Toro and model-fashion designer Kimberly Stewart welcomed daughter Delilah Genoveva on August 21, 2011. Though they’re no longer together, Kimberly said that Benicio is definitely a part of their daughter’s life.
“Benicio’s very involved; he and Delilah have a very special bond,” Kimberly said. “She definitely looks like her dad,” she added. “But she has my legs and eye colour.”
The Big Bang Theory star Simon Helberg and wife Jocelyn Towne welcomed first child, daughter Adeline, on May 8, 2012. “The family is thrilled,” a source said. “Simon is excited to be a father — he’s been doing his reading.”
“The hardest part about having a new baby means the hours at which you now watch tv will almost certainly yield a Rob Schneider movie,” the new dad tweeted.
Dancing With the Stars winner J.R. Martinez and his girlfriend Diana Gonzalez-Jones welcomed their first child, daughter Lauryn Anabelle, on May 2, 2012.
The former US Army soldier explained the special meaning behind their newborn daughter’s name.
“Her first name, Lauryn, is after Diana’s younger sister who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year,” J.R. said. “And her middle name, Anabelle, is after my sister who passed away when she was 6.”
Although the proud parents decided to give their daughter – who was born with “a full head of hair” and affectionately referred to as “our little lamb” – personally meaningful names, they also agreed to change up the spelling so that “[Lauryn] will have her own identity.”
Reality TV star Jack Osbourne and fiancée Lisa Stelly welcomed their first child, daughter Pearl, on April 24, 2012. Jack’s gem of a daughter is the first grandchild for The Talk co-host Sharon Osbourne and her legendary rocker hubby, Ozzy Osbourne.
“People say when you have a kid it’s like instant love, but unless you’ve experienced it, it’s impossible to comprehend,” Jack, 25, said. “The moment I saw her I felt more love than I’d ever felt for anything. It was the weirdest, most overwhelming thing.”
Former U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner and wife Huma Abedin welcomed their first child, son Jordan Zain, on December 21, 2011. During the same time Weiner’s online naughty behavior was exposed, it was announced that he and his wife of a year were expecting their first child. Despite the revelations, Abedin stood by her man.
“The baby seems to have been really, really positive for him, having something positive to put your everything into every day,” a source said.
Around the World in 80 Plates star Curtis Stone and actress Lindsay Price welcomed their first child, son Hudson, on November 6, 2011. The sexy celebrity chef recently talked about his new role as a father.
“I was expecting most of [the parts of fatherhood] because I have nephews and friends with kids, however I wasn’t expecting how happy they make you with their constant smiles,” Curtis said. “Or how ridiculous you are and behave like an absolute fool in front of other adults to get a smile out of your kid.”
Notting Hill actor Hugh Grant has been quiet about fatherhood since his daughter Tabitha was born in November 2011 after a “fleeting affair” with Chinese actress Tinglan Hong. But recently, the Love Actually star said he’s “absolutely thrilled” to be a dad.
“Everyone was right all these years, saying, ‘Hugh, why don’t you have some children? It changes your life.’ And you’re thinking, ‘Oh, shut up.’” Hugh said. “Now that I have [a child], it is life changing,” he added. “I recommend it. Get some!”
Groovy, baby! At age 47, Mike Myers and his new wife Kelly Tisdale welcomed a son named Spike in September 2011. “He is healthy and his parents are ecstatic,” the Austin Powers‘ rep stated.
While no explanation was given for the interesting baby name, many speculate the SNL alum named his boy after the Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation film series.
