“I’m not driven like I once was — these days I am consumed with being a father and with my responsibilities as a husband,” he once admitted, “I never anticipated starting a family at my age. I’m genuinely happy to let Catherine work, while I stay at home with the children. I cherish this time.” – Michael on being a stay at home dad.
“It seems odd, I guess, for the United States. But Catherine is an international star, and in England the paparazzi become like bounty hunters and go to extraordinary extremes to take a photograph they can sell. When you spend your whole life protecting your name and likeness, how do you deal with these people? I’ve been really open about it, saying, Look, you want to take a photograph of me and sell it? We’ll split the money, and I’ll give my half to charity. When we were going to have a baby, we knew a bounty hunt would happen. So when we were contacted by a magazine about their doing a layout, paying us for it, then syndicating the photos-a fairly common practice in Europe as opposed to here-we simply saw it as a way to build financial security for our new son and control what was going to be a madhouse. I’d rather do that than have some guy harassing us, though that happens anyway.” – papa Michael on the reasoning behind their decision to sell Dylan’s newborn photos.
“The kids recently started new schools, which means having to make new friends. I like to get them up in the morning and get them ready for school. I make them breakfast, and we talk about their day. I like to know who their friends are. I can see the tightness of the bond we feel and the security they have. It is tremendous, unequivocal love with no judgment, and that is the best feeling in the world.” – Michael on his children.
“New York is where we live now. We lived in Bermuda until last September. One of our kids has some special needs and it was recommended he go to a special school in the New York area. Neither of us is overwhelmed with worry about which school or college they are going to be going to. We just want them to be good citizens of the planet. They’re not spoiled or obnoxious. They’re well-mannered, confident, pretty worldly.” – Michael on his two youngest kids.
