While she’s talked about being an “attachment parent” to her 19-month-old son Ever, multi Grammy Award-winning singer Alanis Morissette is now opening up about her struggle with postpartum depression.

“I just thought it was a swampy chapter, if I soldiered it out, that it would go away,” the new mom, 38, tells ET Canada.

She adds: “I came to realize that the longer I waited, the more intense it would become.”

In sharing her story, the You Oughta Know singer hopes to help other women.

“I think if there is any goal in me talking about it, it would be to eradicate the shame around it,” she says. “It’s just what happens sometimes and, for me, I just waited way too long to reach out for help.”

Kudos to Alanis for speaking publicly about her ppd. Too bad she didn’t use a different venue to discuss it though. ET Canada is just a fluff entertainment show (and a lame one at that!) and I doubt they would be interested in covering a topic like this in any depth.
