It has definitely been a tough summer for singer Usher and ex-wife Tameka Foster. Not only has the couple been locked in a bitter custody battle over their two sons Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 3 (an Atlanta court recently granted primary custody to Usher) but they also grieved the loss of Tameka’ 11-year-old son Kile when he was fatally injured in a ski accident in August.
“I miss Kile,” the 33-year-old star shares with Oprah Winfrey in Sunday’s episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter. “We cooked together, we laughed, we sang. He loved to sing and dance. He loved to tell jokes.”
“It hurts me to hear people speculating that I wasn’t at the funeral,” Usher – who visited Kile at the hospital in his final days – says. “I absolutely was at the funeral. I was at the burial as well.
Despite a brief hiatus from their war in court, the Grammy winner and his ex were back at it shortly after Kile’s death and during his interview, Usher clarified Tameka’s in-court allegations that he was unfaithful and an absentee father.
“Absentee from the aspect of having to go and work, that probably would be her version or idea what absentee would be,” he argues. “But no, I’m not an absentee father at all.”
“I was born to do what I’m doing as a dad,” he adds. “I realized that once I had a child. When I had them, that’s when they became a priority. It wasn’t because of this case.
