Tom Cruise Files $50 Million Lawsuit

UK Premiere of "Rock of Ages"

Tom Cruise is fighting back on claims that he’s abandoned Suri. The actor has filed a $50 million lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch magazines who printed headlines such as “Suri in Tears, Abandoned By Her Dad” and In Touch’s “Abandoned By Daddy”.

TMZ reports Cruise claims the stories are false and insists, he “loves his daughter dearly and would never abandon her.”

His lawyer Bert Fields states, “Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri.  She’s a vital part of his life and always will be.  To say he has ‘abandoned’ her is a vicious lie.  To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible.

“Tom doesn’t go around suing people.  He’s not a litigious guy.  But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he’s going to sue. “These serial defamers are foreign owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg.  They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage.  Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down.”

Fields adds that any money Tom gets from the magazines will go to charity.

I never miss a good opportunity to bash this guy, but I’m totally cool with him suing these guys for this. One day Suri is gonna see this crap. You ethically and legally cannot try to financially capitalize over perpetuating a lie that a father has abandoned his child.

Say whatever bad things you will about Tom, and I say quite a few, I have never said he doesn’t care about his kids or abandoned them. If there is one thing I think is pretty obvious, it is that he tries to be the absolute best father he can be. While to him that includes things (Scientology) I consider crazy, he is by no means a bad or absent dad.

I dont know their private business BUT I do know that he was NOT in NY for her first day of school and has not seen her since their summertime trip to Florida (he was filming I believe). HOWEVER those magazines always exaggerate everything and Suri will definitely grow up being taught (rightly so) that most of the informaiton in those rags is BS. Celebrities need to rise above tabloid headlines everyone knows that you must read them with a grain of salt.

How do YOU know that he hasn’t seen her since they were in Florida? Do you track their every move? Do you think that only things you’ve seen photos of have actually happened?

      You’re incredibly pompous.

No but the media tracks their every move. They camp out around Katie’s apartment and the kid’s school and the airports. Tom has not even been in states during that time and she has not left them It does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Regardless, my comment was about reading these mags with a grain of salt and them teaching their daughter to pay them no mind. I dont think that is pompous at all.

Read them with a grain of sale? You seem to believe that they’re the freaking bible since your “evidence” that he hasn’t seen his daughter is that the tabloids haven’t reported on it! Hypocrit much!?!?!?

What part of him paying over $40K/month in child support makes him a “deadbeat dad” since Katie has primary custody? The work he’s doing is what’s going to get his child support paid. I understand her having the custody she has because of his celebrity and continually starring in movies. The time he has off won’t always coincide with when Suri is “available” for his custodial duties. The real “deadbeat” talk will come when he’s not doing movies anymore and will seek a modification in his child support (if ever).

When parents divorce, they have to work out times for both parents to share in their child’s life. It is not unique — in fact several parents do it all the time. Some may say, a child needs a schedule so for her, NYC school (vs. what was reportedly home school with travel to movie locations), gymnastics classes, ballot, etc. One parent enrolls their child in multiple extracurricular activities so her “free time” is booked. Not saying this is happening here, but divorced parents have had this issue. In the meantime, it is reported that he is generously providing a residence for her and her mother in a manner in which they have become accustomed. Not fair to presume he hasn’t asked to see her, but someone said sorry, no can do. He is professional, their child likely can read the Internet, and I would be surprise to see any detailed real time discussions about personal visitation discussions in the press that their daughter and/or her friends will read. In my opinion, the sleazy mags should stand down and the public should stop giving them our hard earned bucks.
