General Hospital star Christie Lynn Smith recently celebrated her baby shower at the COOP in Studio City, Calif. with husband, actor John Fortson, their 4-year-old daughter Abby and a group of their closest pals.
Sponsored by Daddy Scrubs – famous for its “I’m the Daddy” labor and delivery scrubs and other fun gifts & apparel for the expectant and new dad, Packaways and Britax, etc. – the event benefitted a charity close to their hearts, Celebrate the Military Child. Christie Lynn opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about being raised a military child, the fun details of her baby shower, and entering the nesting stage of her pregnancy.
CBS: Please tell us about your recent baby shower that benefitted a charity close to your heart, Celebrate the Military Child. Tell us about the charity and how your shower helped out with the cause.
CLS: “Our baby shower was wonderful. It was so nice to come together with family and friends to celebrate our little one on-the-way. Each one of us is a special gift and it’s important to honor this special gift of bringing a child into the world. I feel so blessed.
Thus our baby shower benefitted Celebrate the Military Child. John and I love this nonprofit organization that celebrates the children of the military by acknowledging them through a party in their honor for all the sacrifices they make. Being military children ourselves, John and I, know firsthand the ups and downs of moving around the world and having family members gone for extended lengths of time in hostile territories. Not to mention the family members that don’t come back. Celebrate the Military Child brings a sense of empowerment, normalcy, and simply put, a happy day, into the lives of these kids.
We had our safari-themed baby shower thrown by Faith Vera, also known as “Favemom” and styled by Made by a Princess, at the COOP in Studio City and asked dad’s and kids to join us. It’s a place for everyone to enjoy, especially children of all ages.
Abby, my 4 1/2 year old, was there with about 20 other children playing on the slide & in the huge ball pool while the adults got to visit, catch up and play a few shower games. It was a joy to see everyone having a great time.
We had amazing companies donate to the charity such as Joovy, Britax, Summer Infant, Daddy Scrubs, Packaways, Stokke, Sophie the Giraffe and so many more. We so appreciated their generosity and giving hearts in helping Celebrate the Military Child. Many military families will have a wonderful Christmas because of companies like them.”
CBS: Both you and your husband grew up as military children. Tell us about your experiences and why this cause it so important to you.
CLS: “John and I both grew up with fathers in the military, moving around the world and throughout the United States our entire childhoods. As a result, we both have a great sense of adventure, love to travel and explore other cultures. We also grew to be very independent, and self reliant. These were great qualities as we found our calling as actors and set out to follow our dreams.
At the same time, there are many sacrifices that families make. We can both relate to kids not having both parents present in the early stages of childhood and how that can affect them later on. Kids can find themselves feeling lost, alone, even forgotten, needing guidance & mentorship.
That’s why we were honored to have our shower benefit this charity and their mission of celebrating military children.”
CBS: How are you feeling? Are you feeling prepared for the baby?
CLS: “Since the last time we spoke, I am feeling more tired and having tons of Braxton Hicks contractions! I remember having them with Abby when I was pregnant with her 4 1/2 years ago, but not this many or this strong. It’s crazy how our bodies know what to do – it’s definitely getting ready for the big day.
Prepared? To be honest, I’m feeling a tad overwhelmed – there is such much to do before the baby is born and getting ready for his arrival. I do believe I have started officially nesting. Our place looks like, do you remember the show, Sanford and Son. I’m organizing, washing, cleaning – baby things are everywhere!
I know none of that ‘stuff’ really matters – all the baby really needs is his mommy and daddy and lots and lots of love! Which he will most definitely get – I can’t wait to smother him with tons of kisses! I’m getting really excited to meet him and see his sweet little face very soon.”View Slideshow »»
