Update: No baby yet for Shakira and Gerard Piqué! In a tweet posted Thursday, the footballer announced the arrival of their son. Congratulations are in order for Shakira and Gerard Piqué.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, 35, and the FC Barcelona soccer star, 25, welcomed their first child on Thursday (December 27). “Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages,” the proud new papa tweeted.
No further information has been revealed at this time. But reportedly, the Spanish footballer chose the name Biel – which is of Catalán origin and a diminutive form of Gabriel – for their son.
The couple first met on the set of Shakira’s video for the South Africa World Cup theme song, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
In September Shakira confirmed their pregnancy news on her official website, writing, “Gerard I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.”
In October, the singer posted a baby bump shot on her Facebook page.
And earlier this month, they shared an ultrasound photo of their son.
