Matthew McConaughey: Life With 3 Kids Is “More Of Circus”

The 18th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards - Arrivals

With their third child Livingston arriving last month, actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves definitely have a full house these days. “It’s getting to be more of circus that’s for sure!” the Mud star says, adding that his busy family life has shifted his priorities.

“When you’ve got family, you have to pick your extra-curriculars. Whoever has kid knows that, man. You have to pick and choose and go wait, which is the one I really want to do because I ain’t watching all the Saturday’s football and I’m not watching all of Sunday’s,” says Matthew, who is also dad to kids Levi and Vida. “I’m not going to be a kayaker, a snow skier and a marathon runner. No, you gotta zero in when you got kids and a family.”

While dad-of-three Ben Affleck has moved behind the lens to take on a directing and producing role recently, Matthew says he has no plans to give up his current day job.

“I’m really enjoying being an actor for hire,” he explains. “I’ve been offered to produce some things and I’ve said, ‘No thank you.’… I’m really enjoying my time getting ready for a role, my man, my characters, going to work, doing my best to nail it, finishing work and going, ‘That was a beautiful time. Thank you. See you down the road. I’m going back to my family.’”

I think this also applies to ‘parents’ like Jennifer Lopez. You can’t be on a tv show, design a fashion line, create a perfume, start a clothing line, do public appearances, go to charity events, tour the planet AND be a present parent. You just can’t (unless you’ve found a way to bend the space/time continuum).
