Congratulations are in order for Kara DioGuardi and Mike McCuddy.
The American Idol star and her husband welcomed their first child, a son named Greyson James Carroll McCuddy, on Thursday (January 31) in Los Angeles, PEOPLE reports.
Baby Greyson was born via gestational surrogate at 1:01 p.m., weighing in at 8 lbs., 10 oz. and measuring 20 ¾ inches long.
The name Carroll honors Kara’s late mother.
The happy news of Greyson’s birth comes after years of heartbreak for songwriter DioGuardi, 42, who suffered several miscarriages and failed IVF attempts. In addition, the couple explored other paths to parenthood, including adoption and surrogacy.
She recently opened up about choosing a gestational carrier.
“We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate,” she said. “I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked. We’re praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it’s as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she’s been a gem throughout the whole process. I’ve got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift.”
