Jennie Garth is on top of the world! The single mom – who celebrated her 41st birthday on April 3 – shared a photo taken by her 31-year-old musician boyfriend Jeremy Salkin.  She wrote: “I made it to the top! Thanks @jewunit for taking me on my first ‘real’ hike #iheartboulder”

Garth is now writing a column for The Real Deal on the coupon site Retailmenot.com. She reveals her life is different from her role of playing Kelly Taylor on Beverly Hills 90210.

She writes: “I’m nothing like Kelly Taylor. In fact, Beverly Hills is not my scene at all. Yes, I live in L.A. but I don’t live in a mansion with a cook and a butler.”

The actress also reveals her life growing up in a small town in Illinois.

“My upbringing certainly influenced my relationship with money, as everyone’s does. We grew much of our own food, and I can still remember flipping through the tattered pages of my mom’s favorite cookbook, about feeding a family on $12 a week.”

She added she’s “trying to juggle everything: my kids, my career, and if I’m lucky, some sort of personal life.”

The mom to Luca, 15, Lola, 10, and Fiona, 6, continues, “Every day, I get up and make breakfast for my girls. I sit on the rug during story time at my daughter’s school; I make costumes for the first grade play; I contribute to potlucks. Every minute is precious, and now more than ever, every dollar I bring home, or manage to save, means more safety and security for my family and our future.”

She is not a single parent, she is a single co-parent. She has an ex-husband’s child support, and her ex-husband takes the kids meaning she gets a break. A TRUE single parent NEVER gets a break and has to make money on their own. I wish society would wake up!

Totally agree. It’s an unfortunate expression that lumps people together whose lives don’t really resemble each others at all, and is a real insult to Dad’s who pay support and see their kids on a regular schedule. Jennie is a single woman; she is not a single parent. Those kids have two and they see them both all the time.

Apparently she’s run out of actual career opportunities if she’s sharing coupon duty with Kate Gosselin.
