Steve Martin was on Tuesday’s Late Show With David Letterman when the 67-year-old dad talked about his daughter – who was born in December.
When Letterman asked him what the baby’s name is Martin joked, “Thought about the name quite a bit. CONQUISTADOR! What do you think? I didn’t want to go with one of those Hollywood, you know how they come up with the weird names. Conquistador says … it’s a statement.”
He added, “It’s going great, first of all, because I have a wonderful wife and mother. I’m paying her a compliment — everything is funny when I try to be serious, but I guess that’s good. It’s the nature of my business!”
US Weekly reports during his interview – Martin put a baby monitor on Letterman’s desk.
“The baby’s back at the hotel,” he explained, “and I’m a responsible dad.”
When noises such as a barking dog and a car alarm were heard – Martin joked, “I think I left the window open!”
Martin married Anne Stringfield, 41, a former staff member at the New Yorker in 2007. His new album Love Has Come For You is now out.
