In one of the most peaceful splits in Hollywood, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards provide inspiration to many co-parents.
“In the last few years, things have gotten really great with us,” Denise said during an appearance on HuffPost Live Tuesday. “We’re very close and we’re good friends, which is great because it’s great for our kids.”
The famous exes – who are parents to daughters Sam, 9, and Lola, 7 – reconnected when Sheen was splitting from his third ex-wife, Brooke Mueller.
“This is awful to say, but it’s true,” Richards admitted. “When his third marriage started to fall apart, he and I started to become friendly.”
“From day one, I’ve always wanted to keep the kids a priority and suck it up for them, but it takes two people to do that,” she added. “He sees the benefit, too, that when we get along, it’s good for the kids. It’s not fair to them to be around parents who can’t stand each other.”
Appearing to be the celebrity mom of the year, Richards was recently granted temporary custody of Sheen and Mueller’s 4-year-old twin boys, Bob and Max, while their mother continues to be treated for addiction to prescription drugs.
