Salma Hayek is loving motherhood now, but she wasn’t exactly basking in the glow of pregnancy before her daughter Valentina‘s birth in September 2007. In a new interview with Glamour magazine’s Glam Belleza Latina, the 46-year-old actress opens up about gaining 50 pounds during her pregnancy.

“I gained so much weight, I got an opportunity to see myself completely disfigured in many different ways — for a very good reason — and I don’t regret it for a second,” Salma says. “That’s when I started appreciating my body. The things that I used to criticize, they were not that bad after all.”

She adds: “We’ve got to fight for our confidence every day in modern life because we live in a society that is very harsh to women. You have to be smart and successful and a good mother and beautiful and young and skinny forever.”

But true success isn’t about the size of your waist, according the the brunette beauty.

“Success is happiness,” Salma continues.”If you’ve found the right companion for life, a good relationship with loved ones, if you are healthy — my God, you are immensely successful.”

And by all accounts, it seems she is very happy with husband, French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, and their 5-year-old daughter.

“I believe that change keeps you young. I’m a late bloomer; I always have been,” she shares. “A lot of women think that this is the [age] when you start getting depressed. To that I say, ‘No, no, no, no, no!’ I’m having the best time of my life.”

I don’t think your headline for this story is fair – she’s making a very good point, but the headline implies otherwise.

Exactly, she has a good point. I used to wish I had a smaller bosom, but after I got pregnant and became GINORMOUS in that area, I fully appreciated going back to my regular DD cup ;)

True success isn’t determined by the size of your waist, but 50 pregnancy pounds made her feel disfigured. Pick one.
