We first loved her as Mary Swanson in Dumb & Dumber. And not to mention as Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart in Picket Fences. Now, Lauren Holly is a proud mom-of-three and returning to the small screen in the new ABC crime drama, Motive.
The actress, 49, opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about her three children – Azer, 12, George, 11, and Henry, nearly 10 – and the “constant juggling act” of motherhood and her career. She goes on to talk about her upcoming projects and summer plans with the family.
CBS: Tell us about your new role as Dr. Betty Rogers on ABC’s new crime drama series Motive.
LH: “It is a crime show turned upside down. You meet the killer and the victim right away, but then see how/why. I loved Dr. Betty because she is smart and sassy.”
CBS: Tel us about your upcoming role as Ruth Elliott in Hoovey. Tell us more about the project.
LH: “It is a true story about a family overcoming a medical, and thus, financial tragedy. It is an inspiring and uplifting story directed by Sean MacNamara (Soul Surfer). Patrick Warburton, Codey Linley, and Alyson Stoner are my family.”
CBS: Tell us about your three children. How old are they and what are they into?
LH: “Azer is 12 and loves the guitar, skateboards, and BMX.
George is 11 and loves computers, books and swimming.
Henry is almost 10 and loves anything that involves a ball and movies.”
CBS: What is your favorite part about being a mom? Has motherhood changed you?
LH: “My favorite times are late night conversations — especially when the four of us get laughing.
Changed me? In so many ways, but immediately I became less selfish.”
CBS: How do you balance motherhood and your career?
LH: “It is a constant juggling act.”
CBS: Do you believe that women can have it all? Unrealistic or attainable?
LH: “It is both. For me it fluctuates between the two, honestly. Some weeks I’m doing it, some weeks I’m flailing.”
CBS: What do you and your kids plan to do this summer? How do they stay busy?
LH: “We are just hanging out and having fun together. Yesterday we had a huge water fight with 30 friends and family — hoses, squirt guns and 1,000 water balloons. It was a blast. I start season 2 of Motive in mid August, and they will go to camp then before heading back to school.”
