On Monday, Usher‘s elder son was retrieving a toy from a pool drain when his arm got stuck. And now, the popstar is breaking his silence since the hospitalization of his 5-year-old son Usher V, thanking the men who saved the little boy’s life.
“I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,” the singer said in a statement. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
The boy’s aunt and a maid tried unsuccessfully to rescue him. Thankfully, two male employees working inside the home eventually freed the boy, who was given CPR and then rushed to an Atlanta-area hospital.
“I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering,” the statement read. “I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being,”
Usher Raymond V is the singer’s elder son with his ex-wife Tameka Foster. They are also parents to 4-year-old son Naviyd Ely. The day after the accident, Tameka reportedly requested an emergency hearing to gain primary custody of the two children.
“Now that it’s sunk in, she is livid,” a source close to Tameka told PEOPLE. “Usher has custody and won’t let Tameka have the kids, even when he’s out of town. She feels like the kids are being raised by his family or by nannies, when they should be with their mother.”
The source continued:”He’s going to be just fine. The doctors are taking every precaution to make sure he’s okay, because they’re worried about dry drowning. But the danger looks like it has passed.”
