Ali Landry: “You Have To Give Yourself A Break”

Actress Ali Landry visits with fellow moms at a party celebrating the national launch of Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash Ointment held at Fearing's at The Ritz-Carlton in Dallas.

Actress and model Ali Landry recently joined forces with Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash Ointment for the brand’s launch in Walgreens stores nationwide. To celebrate the launch, the mom of three, to Estela, 6, Marcelo, 2, and Valentin, 3 months, hosted a party for mom bloggers from Dallas and throughout Texas.

Ali opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about why she “really connected” with the Dr. Smith’s brand, how her “happy baby” Valentin is doing, and how she experienced “a little bit of postpartum and ‘baby blues’ for the first few months.” She goes on to chat about her new favored.by app and how she balances her work and family life.

CBS: Tell us about teaming up with Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash Ointment to launch the brand in Walgreens stores across the country. Why do you love this brand and product?

AL: “Dr. Smith sent me a sample of their product before I had the baby, and I was really looking forward to using it on him. He got a diaper rash in the second week after he was born. I used the product on him and it did exactly what it said it would do. It works fast, usually overnight. As a mom, it’s thrilling that the product works so well for diaper rashes, as they could be very painful. More than anything, I was really impressed with Dr. Smith’s story. It is such a great product, but I love that it was created by a doctor in Texas and spread locally because moms shared their experiences with other moms. Now it’s available in all Walgreens store and it’s a huge product that everyone is able to experience and use. Some of the family members were at the launch and it’s a really nice company. I really connected with their brand and who they were.”

CBS: Tell us about hosting a party for moms from Dallas and throughout Texas. Tell us why you love promoting this product.

AL: “I loved it! The moms were mostly mom bloggers. I was there with my baby and they were all in the same exact position that I was. I shared with them some things I was was going through and the women gave me credible advice. As bloggers, these women ultimately have shared their story or shared advice with other women. That’s what it’s all about, and it was very inspiring for me.”

CBS: How is baby Valentin doing? What kind of baby is he? Is he your easiest baby yet? Or do you think all your babies were roughly the same as newborns?

AL: “Valentin is three months old now and he’s doing excellent! He’s nursing perfectly and sleeping through the night. He’s such a happy baby and I think he might be my easiest out of the three for sure. It was a little rough in the beginning, not exactly because of him; I had a little bit of postpartum and little ‘baby blues’ for the first few months, but now we are doing amazing.”

CBS: How are Estela and Marcelo adjusting to baby Valentin? Has it been an easy transition for all members of your family? Please elaborate.

AL: “They have been doing much better than I thought they would. I knew Estela was going to be great, as she is old enough and is such a little helper. Marcelo was very attached to me and I was really concerned about that, but Estela did beautifully. My husband really stepped up to the plate too by helping with the other children and by taking them to do fun things during the day while I cared and nursed the new baby. The adjustment for them couldn’t have gone better. It was more of an adjustment for me, as it was one more child in our family and the dynamic changed; I couldn’t be there for the others as much as I was before. It was all about managing that and trying to find that balance. Now we’ve really gotten into the groove of everything. It’s all good now.”

CBS: Sorry to bug you so soon, but are you open to another baby? Or do you feel your family is ‘complete’ now?

AL: “We both come from a family of three children and we always thought three was a great number. However, I am definitely open to having another child. We are not planning to have another child, but, we would of course be thrilled if it happens.”

CBS: How do you balance your career and busy family life? What are some of your best tips for balance for all the busy moms out there?

AL: “Right now, my career takes a backseat to my family most of the time. I am a mother and a wife first, and that is what is most important to me. My main focus right now is this band new baby and adjusting the whole family to this new addition. Fortunately, I have been able to work a lot as a mom, whether I’m pregnant or postpartum. I’ve really worked a lot and I feel really blessed. I am about to launch an app in the mom and baby space called favored.by, where moms can pick their favorite things in certain categories.

That’s what we’re always looking for as a mom; when you’re trying to buy a product, you want to know what like-minded people and what your friends’ favorite products are before you make that purchase. We are really excited about the app and I was able to work with Palmer’s and Dr. Smith’s again. Now I am also about to start working with Sensa to try to get the baby weight off. That will be very interesting. [laughs] It’s really great, but the family and baby are my number one priority.

In regard to my best tip for balancing everything, it’s really about taking it one day at a time. You do your best each day and you have to give yourself a break. You go into each day with the best intentions of wanting to be there fully for your children, husband, and family, but someone always gets the short end of the stick. It’s about giving yourself a break in those moments and knowing that tomorrow is a new day. You try your best. I try to be as organized as possible, and that helps. Each day you go in with the best intentions and give yourself a break at the end of the day.”

CBS: What are you doing for Halloween tonight?  Do Estela and Marcelo have costumes picked out?

AL: “Marcelo is obsessed with ‘Choo Choo Trains,’ so he is going to be Thomas the Train. Estela loves the cartoon Sofia The First, so she wants to be her. We are recycling one of the costumes from last year for the baby, so he’s going to wear one of those. He will be Mickey Mouse or a little cat.”

CBS: What’s up next for you?

AL: “Right now, I am working with Sensa and launching the favored.by app, and I have a few other deals that we are working on. I also produce as well, so now we are working on a few different web series. There is also a television show in the works, and I have a film coming out this year. There’s always something going on, but that is what is on the plate right now.”
