“But at that moment of pulling [Sadie] out and I just tore [the hospital gown] off. There’s a room full of people that I don’t know. Nurses and doctors. And she and I just laid there. It was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” – Christina on the birth of her first child.
“I felt my heart literally open up for the first time and like wrap itself around her. It was profound and I’m more in love with her every minute of the day. I’ve had to talk about that word [cancer] more than I’ve ever had to talk about a word in my life. After a while you’re like, ‘There’s got to be something else to me.’… Yeah, now I’m Mom. She’s healed me in so many ways. She’s just made my life so much better. She’s opened my whole soul.” – new mama Christina on her sweet Sadie Grace.
“I love motherhood. In fact, I can’t wait to leave from this conversation here and go home to her! She’s a month old tomorrow, so I’m watching her change and grow everyday and it’s remarkable. It’s not about insecurities so much as a place on your body that is not yours anymore. You don’t have that kind of relationship that you used to because it’s, you know, no longer a part of you. It’s an amputation – it’s gone,” she said. “But [my chest] is [Sadie’s] favorite place to be. And it’s opened that part of me up again where I think I closed.” – Christina on how motherhood has transformed her.
“She’s allowed to study, and if she wants to take acting classes or dance classes, she’s allowed to but I have a very strong ‘No’ when it comes to monetary exchange for your talents until she’s 18.” – Christina on whether or not she wants her daughter to become a child star.
“We don’t know the best thing to do. She’s starting to get really defiant when we say no and look back at us with an evil look in her eye.” – Christina on enduring the terrible twos.
“It’s been amazing. It’s been the best few months. I ended work in May, and I’m really happy just to be a stay-at-home mom. You know, it doesn’t seem like I’m a stay-at-home mom with all the things that I’m doing. But sometimes you have to do these things because you are staying home from work! Everyone has to make a living and be doing something for themselves as well. So, I’m very moderately busy with those things, but for the most part, I’m home with Sadie all day long, for 12 hours a day, and it’s fabulous.” – Christina on being a stay at home mom.
