Halle Berry: “I No Longer Can Afford To Have The Gypsy Life”

Halle Berry gets serious on the set of "Extant"

Halle Berry was spotted on the set of Extant in Los Angeles, Calif. this week. The actress is happy that the new CBS series is based in Los Angeles.

The 47-year-old told People, I really wanted to work in town and be with my kids. I no longer can afford to have the gypsy life. There are others who are more important and who I need to think about. This allows me to stay home and still do something really creative and cool that I love.”

“So far, it is a lot of work. It is long days, but at least I’m in the city where my kids are so I can see them and they can come visit me. I can tuck them in at night. I can see them every weekend.”

Referring to Nahla, 7, she added, “Sometimes she comes up with stuff and I am like, that was pretty good. But no, she hasn’t got the acting bug. She isn’t even really sure what acting is. She thinks I am a real life princess that is what she tells her friends. She sees me when I say, ‘I am going to work,’ and I am dressed up and wearing fancy dresses so she says you are a real princess why else would you be dressing up like that for work?”

Berry explained why she chose to do the sci-fi thriller.

“It is like the new golden age of television,” she said. “As a woman, when I read this, it was such a strong character. I always gravitate toward strong, complicated woman characters. When I heard Steven Spielberg is a part of it, I thought, wow, that is another big reason to be a part of it.”

Love her. I know without a doubt someone here or elsewhere will bring up her going to court about moving to Paris and m answer to that is “that was then, this is now.” She and her daughter’s dad have worked things out along with she and other celeb parents going to bat about the pap’s and so unless there is just a need by some to critique her choices negatively based on general dislike for herI see nothing wrong at all with her choosing to stay put.

I’ve been down with Halle since the “Living Dolls” days & I’m thrilled she’s got a tv show coming up. But also afraid that it may not do well. Spielberg does great movies, but tv… not so much. He produced “Smash” , it got a big build-up & plenty of press, but it was cancelled after a year. I worry it will hurt her brand if “Extant” isn’t a hit. But I do digress… I love Halle, but she was as wrong as the day is long to try to move to France & take Nahla away from her father! Luckily, the judge saw that he’s a good dad & didn’t fall for the okey-doke. Seems the real problem wasn’t Gabriel’s parenting but the fact that her new man didn’t like her ex or the fact that Halle has to pay him beaucoup child support. (Remember that Thanksgiving throwdown at her crib?) Claiming the US paparazzi were a danger to her child was a lame excuse. She’s just as famous now as she was 2 yrs. ago when she lost that court case, but she’s not cursing out photogs anymore. The laws in Cali are crazy, but one thing they got absolutely right was requiring a judge to sign off before one parent can leave the state with the kids.
