Supermodel Niki Taylor, 39, teamed up with the 2014 Nexcare give campaign – an annual program by Nexcare Bandages and the American Red Cross to promote World Blood Donor Day – Saturday, June 14, 2014.
Along with her work as a model, TV host and mother of four, Niki Taylor is also an advocate of raising awareness about the importance of blood donation. Following her 2001 near-fatal car accident for which she credits blood transfusions with saving her life, Niki has been involved with the American Red Cross and the Nexcare give campaign to honor World Blood Donor Day for the past few years.
Celebrity Baby Scoop spoke to Niki about her personal blood donation story, her family, her new show and more. She currently lives in Nashville with her husband Rex Harrison and four children.
CBS: Tell us about your partnership with the 2014 Nexcare Give campaign and the American Red Cross’promotion of Nation Blood Donor Day (Saturday, June 14, 2014).
NT: “In 2001, I was involved in a near-fatal car accident and needed about 100 units of lifesaving blood to survive –American Red Cross blood donors saved my life. This is why I teamed up with the AmericanRed Cross and Nexcare Bandages for the sixth-annual Nexcare give program, which thanks blood donors and inspired others to “give,” in celebration of World Blood Donor Day on June 14.
To raise awareness about this important cause, Nexcare Bandages created a limited-edition collection of bandages with the word “give” that are being handed out for free at participating American Red Cross centers nationwide all this week.
This year’s Nexcare give theme is “The Art of Giving,” with designs inspired by 5 artistic movements, including Abstract, Contemporary, Impressionism, Pop Art and Street Art.”
CBS: What’s the message you’re trying to get out? Why is it important to get people involved in this annual event? What can we do?
NT: “Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and no one knows this better than I do. The goal of this program is to inspire people to donate and raise awareness about the ongoing need for patients like me surrounding World Blood Donor Day and all throughout the year.
Donors and supporters can also visit www.Nexcaregive.com to find their local blood donation centers and sign-up for free bandages.”
CBS: How are you the kids doing? What kinds of things do you enjoy doing as a family?
NT: “My kids are great! My 19 year old twins are living in Florida now. They both work and they’re going to school part-time. It’s summer right now, so they love music, hanging with their friends and girlfriends, and just being 19 year olds. They’re not sure what they want to be when they grow up, but who does at 19!”
Ciel is 5, she is going into kindergarten next year, we just registered her. She’s an artist and just a little firecracker and little Fashionista! She is always drawing something and always changing her outfit. She’s the cutest thing every – 5 going on 25.
Rex is her best friend, her little brother who’s 2. He is just such a sweetheart. He loves books, dinosaurs, trucks – he is all boy. He loves numbers, and loves his alphabet too. This summer he’s going to summer school twice a week with his sister, which has been really fun. They’re amazing, doing great.”
CBS: Did Jake and Hunter graduate this year? Are they ready to head off for college? How have you planned for this time in your life? What advice would you give other moms who are sending kids to college in the fall?
NT: “My advice is that you got to let them go sometime! It’s like driving when they got their licenses at 16, and you think oh yeah, you can drive without me now! My advice is to just take that leap of faith and let them go.”
CBS: Father’s Day is just around the corner, how do you like to celebrate as a family? What traits does your husband have that makes him a great Dad?
NT: “It’s a blessing that we get to be together because my husband travels a lot for work, he’s a pilot, so it’s really nice to be home this year for Father’s Day. I think we’re just going to do nothing! Stay home and do nothing. Maybe cook something really amazing that night.
He is an incredible husband and such a great father, super involved. I’m a very, very lucky girl!”
CBS: What’s up next for you?
NT: “Up next for me, I’m still modeling, still working, and I just started a YouTube channel on the StyleHaul Network which I’m having so much fun doing. I always love to hear ande people’s comments, so please subscribe to my channel and leave your comments on what you would like me to showcase or do next. I love to get feedback and ideas!”
