During a Thursday appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, funnyman Mike Myers gushed about his two children – son Spike, 3, and daughter Sunday, 4 months – and shared their first official photos.
The Shrek star, 51, opened up about his kids’ unique monikers. “Spike is very common Liverpool nickname if your name is Eric,” he shared.
He went on to say that he’s a fan of Spike Milligan, the poet and comic.
How did the SNL alum and his wife Kelly Tisdale choose the name Sunday?
“Me and my wife Kelly hate Sundays—I’m not even kidding—and we wanted to turn it around and make it a good thing,” he shared. “Molly is because of my auntie Molly in Liverpool, England, who was my dad’s sister but more like my grandmother who I love very much and she’s my guardian angel.”
The proud papa called Spike “super funny” before sharing a cute story.
“He has a weird accent. I’m from Toronto—I have a Canadian accent—and my wife’s from Boston, but we live in New York City. He has this weird accent,” he shared before imitating his mini-me.
As for becoming a big brother, Spike isn’t so sure yet.
“When Sunday came home, he was like, ‘Oh, this is great. Is she staying here?’ I said yeah,” the Austin Powers star shared. “I said, Spike, one day, Sunday will be your best friend. And he said, ‘We’ll see.’”
Myers, who directed Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, said he tries to “involve” his son as much as possible when it comes to taking care of his baby sister.
“I’ll say, ‘Baby Sister’—because he refuses to call her Sunday; it’s always Baby Sister—I’ll say, ‘Baby Sister needs a diaper,’ and it’s like four feet away. And I said, ‘Can you be a big brother and get the diaper?’ And he goes, ‘I’m on it!’” he shared. “He runs over there and he does this thing as if it’s really hard, and he [huffs and puffs]. It’s all a bit! As if he had to go under barbwire, swim a lake, take enemy fire. It’s like four feet away! He knows it’s a joke, which is fantastic. I said, ‘You’re a great big brother, Spike,’ and he turns around and goes, ‘Just doing my job.’”View Slideshow »»
