Rumor: Angelina Jolie To Adopt From Syria

Rumor: Angelina Jolie To Adopt From Syria

Angelina Jolie is dominating tabloid covers this week, with US and Star bringing up the old Jennifer Aniston drama, Life & Style proclaiming her a "total fake" and OK! revealing that she's getting set to adopt her 7th child.

It's the adoption rumors that seem to be getting the most attention as the Tomb Raider star has reportedly already started the process to adopt a child from Syria. Angie and her partner Brad Pitt took a trip to the country just last month, visiting with refugee families and children in the region.

Angelina has made no secret of the fact that she plans to expand her family, but although Brad has also seemed on board with the idea of more kids, OK! reports that he's not ready to bring home another baby just yet.

“He has made it clear that six children are more than he can handle,” the magazine quotes a source as saying. “The idea of one more seemed ludicrous, but Angie is determined to complete her rainbow family.”

Brad and Angelina are already parents to kids Maddox, 8, Pax, 5 1/2, Zahara, 4 1/2, Shiloh, 3 1/2, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 1.

Mary J. Blige: "I Wouldn't Adopt"

Mary J. Blige: "I Wouldn't Adopt"

More and more celebrities seem to be turning to adoption these days – but don’t expect singer Mary J. Blige to be one of them.

Speaking to People magazine at last night's New Yorkers for Children event, the 38-year-old Grammy-winner said, "I don't think I'll do foster care or adopt, to be quite honest. I barely have time for my own children. To adopt more children and not have time for them, that [would be] poor parenting on my [part]."

Mary, who was an honoree at the event, is already a very proud step-mom to her husband Kendu Isaacs’ kids Jordan, 11, and Nas, 10.

"One [Jordan] is a film director already – she's working on it. That's her goal,” she revealed. “And the other [Nas] is a philosopher, a public speaker. He speaks very well already."

She may have ruled out adoption or foster care, but Mary does plan on helping kids who are in need.

"I wouldn't adopt, but what I will do is give my time and go and try to be there for people," she says.

Elton John Is Given Some Hope

Recently it was reported that singer Elton John and David Furnish would not be able to adopt 14-month-old Lev, due to Ukranian adoption laws which prohibit same sex couples and unmarried couples from adopting.

It seem as if Yuri Pavlenko, the Youth & Sports Minister of Ukraine has had a change of heart. On Thursday (September 18), Pavlenko said that Sir Elton "has the right and opportunity to invite the family of this boy to visit him, take them under his guardianship and help him grow into a good person."

However, Pavlenko also said that the adoption was not possible because although Lev is under the care of an orphanage his mother is still alive.

The Minister said, "I'd like to ask everyone to be tolerant to the boy. This is not an orphan, the child has a mother and an elder brother and so he cannot be adopted by law. He has a difficult fate, like his mother. Help has been provided to his mother to find strength to bring the family back together."

Elton John still has a rough road ahead of him. Not only does the country's Orthodox and Catholic churches have strong views on gay adoption but The Orthodox Church in Ukraine has already branded Sir Elton a "sinner" because of his sexuality.

Sharon Lawrence Knows Katherine Heigl Will Be A Great Mom

Sharon Lawrence Knows Katherine Heigl Will Be A Great Mom

Sharon Lawrence has nothing but high praise for Grey’s Anatomy costar Katherine Heigl following the news that she will be adopting a baby girl.

“It’s so inspiring,” Sharon tells People at the Governor’s Ball following the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. “I know she’ll be a great mom.”

Sharon believes that Katherine, 30, has many qualities that will make her a natural when it comes to being a mother: “When I was working [on Grey’s], I watched her multitask, creating the career that she wants and supporting her lovely husband [musician Josh Kelley], who was on set, and her connection with her own mother. Katie is a very modern woman who will pursue her passions and not feel limited by anything, and I think that bodes well for her motherhood."

Sharon adds: “Katie as a mom is the kind of gal that makes me feel good about the future. She is smart and happy and free of constraints of 'Oh, I should do this, I shouldn't do this.' For her, motherhood's [going to be] like knife in butter. She'll [set] a great example for that little girl.”

Katherine recently confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and hubby Josh Kelley are adopting a 10-month-old baby girl named Naleigh from Korea. Little Naleigh is a special needs baby whose birthday happens to be the day before Katherine’s.

Katherine hasn’t given a date for her new daughter’s arrival but states that she will be coming “real soon”.

Update: Elton John Changes His Mind About Fatherhood

Update: Elton John Changes His Mind About Fatherhood

Update: According to a Ukrainian family minister, 14-month-old Lev will not be going home with Elton John and David Furnish. People reports that Ukranian adoption laws prohibit same sex couples and unmarried couples from adopting, and also stipulate that adoptive parents be no more than 45 years older than the child. The longtime couple's only hope would be a presidential dispensation - were it granted, they would also be required to adopt Lev's brother.

David and Elton are pictured here with little Lev at a news conference held at the orphanage.

Update: Katherine Heigl Confirms Adoption Plans

Update: Katherine Heigl Confirms Adoption Plans

Update: Katherine Heigl confirms reports that she is adopting a 10-month-old baby girl named Naleigh from Korea on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing on Friday (September 11). The 30-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star opens up about Naleigh's "serendipitous" birthday, how hubby Josh Kelley has supported her dreams to adopt from day one, and how Naleigh is a baby with special needs.

On Naleigh's special birthday: “She was actually born the day before me in November which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign. I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life.”

On how she and Josh were able to adopt so quickly: “She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible.”

On her decision to adopt: “It’s been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do.”

On her husband, musician Josh Kelley: “I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. So about a year ago is when we said, ‘OK, let’s start the process,’ and the process is intense. It’s different but it isn’t, do you know what I mean? It’s just as intense I’m sure to have a baby biologically because you’re going through the whole physical sort of thing of it.”

Rumor: Harrison Ford & Calista Flockhart To Adopt?

Rumor: Harrison Ford & Calista Flockhart To Adopt?

Are Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart getting set to expand their family? The rumor mill is buzzing with speculation that the longtime couple is planning to adopt!

The two are already raising 8-year-old Liam, who Calista adopted as a newborn, and Harrison has four grown children from previous relationships. Now reports are that they hope to add a little girl to the family.

Star magazine states that the couple are in the process of trying to adopt and quotes a source as saying, "Harrison's begun the process of adopting Liam too. He's been a father figure to the boy almost since day one."

Harrison has expressed in the past how thankful he is to have Liam in his life, saying, “[Calista] has brought a child back into my home. My youngest, other than Liam, is 17. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless springtime. You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff.”

Though Harrison, 66, stayed mum on the topic of adoption in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he did confirm that he and Calista, 44, are planning to wed.

Madonna Set To Adopt Again?

Madonna Set To Adopt Again?

The 50-year-old Material Girl, who recently divorced her husband of 8 years Guy Ritchie, is reportedly on her way to Malawi to adopt another child.

Madonna and Guy adopted their now 3-year-old son David from Malawi in 2006. She is also mom to Lourdes, 12, and Rocco, 8.

According to the Associated Press, Madonna has already filed the necessary paperwork and the adoption has been confirmed with a US government official.

While Madonna’s rep hasn’t commented on the rumors, the singer recently admitted she’s been “considering” adopting again, saying, "Many people - especially our Malawian friends - say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister.”

Last week the UK paper The Telegraph reported that Madonna – who has been linked to 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus Luz since her divorce – ran into a few obstacles thanks to her headline-making love life. "Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes," a senior official in the Malawi government was quoted as saying.

Angelina Jolie: 'Pax Still Saves Food'

Adopting an older child is a completely different experience than adopting an infant, and it comes with its own set of unique challenges. Angelina Jolie has three adopted children, but only middle child Pax, 5 this month, was adopted as an older child; he lived in an orphanage in Vietnam for the first three years of his life. Angelina has shared before some of the funnier parts of helping him adjust, saying when they first adopted him, "he would take five baths a day," they "had trouble convincing him underwear is not pants" and that he went from being the "shyest" to the "wildest person in the house".

Unfortunately, not all aspects are as lighthearted, and little Pax is still carrying some emotional scars. Hello! magazine interviewed her about her recent trip to Afghanistan, where she saw children in horrid conditions, and the magazine asked specifically about her own children adapting, being from "similar deprived circumstances." Angelina answered,

"Children respond to affection quickly when they have been starved of it, so they are very loving soon after coming home. But Pax, for example, still wants to save food. He often puts parts of his dinner away for another time, even though we explain there will be more tomorrow."
