Chris O'Donnell Is A Cool Dad... Sometimes

As a dad-of-five, Chris O'Donnell has picked up a few tips of the trade when it comes to parenting. The NCIS star - who has kids Lily, 11, Chip, 10, Charles, 7, Finley, 4, and Maeve, 3, with his wife Caroline - talks to Hello! Canada about life in his very hectic home, and shares a few words of wisdom with his fellow famous father Matt Damon.

On days - and nights - with 5 kids: "Come home with me, I'll show you. When the key goes in the door, they start running - the dog and everybody! It's a race to get time in with them because they have to get to bed at a decent hour. Our kids are really good sleepers, but if someone wakes in the middle of the night, it's not like, 'Well, I did it last night...' There's no question - Caroline's getting up. I've got to sleep. She's real good about that. You need to let the expert do that. It's hard work - sometimes I think I definitely got the easier job."

Chris O'Donnell Is America's Hottest Husband

Actor Chris O'Donnell has just been crowned the "Hottest Husband of 2010" by Redbook readers, and is gracing the magazine's June cover with his adorable family.

The NCIS: Los Angeles star is no stranger to the hunk-title, having been in the industry long enough to have once been considered a "teen-heart throb," but O'Donnell is now a married man with five children, Lily Anne, 10, Christopher ‘Chip’ Eugene, 9, Charles McHugh, 6, Finley, 4, and Maeve Frances, 2. The actor opened up to the magazine about his family life, and his "rock-solid" marriage of 13-years to Carolina Fentress.

On family life: “I knew when I got into this business I couldn’t have it both ways: I could live the playboy lifestyle, which is not a bad thing to do, or have a traditional family life, which is how I grew up. That was more important to me…When I’m sitting in the backyard at the end of the day with a glass of wine, watching the kids having fun and clowning around, for me, that’s what it’s all about.”

On fame: “The only time it got really crazy was during Batman. Anywhere I went in the world, people knew who I was. I was being offered these huge films that would have taken my career to a different level, and I decided to put on the brakes. I knew if I continued on that track, I probably wouldn’t have gotten married.”

On the secret to a happy marriage: “Our families have the same values and traditions, and I think that goes a long way, because when the excitement and heat of romance wears off, those are the things you fall back on.”

Chris O’Donnell's Admits "A Little Miscommunication" Lead To Baby No. 5

Actor Chris O’Donnell, 39, always thought he’d have five children, but after welcoming his fourth child with wife Carolina Fentress, he decided that four was good enough.

“I always wanted five children,” he recently explained to Michigan Avenue Magazine. “But when we got four, I was like, okay, we’re done.”

However, less than a year later the Chris and Caroline were taken by surprise when they learned they were expecting baby no. 5!

“Five was the only time we were really surprised,” admits Chris. “All along the way we were strategic about what we were doing and then, uh, a little miscommunication there.”

Strategy or not, the proud dad has nothing but love for 2-year-old Maeve Frances: “We’ve got five and we couldn’t be happier because [she] is such a cute little girl,” he says.

Chris and Caroline, who have been married since 1997, are also parents to Lily Anne, 10, Christopher ‘Chip’ Eugene, 9, Charles McHugh, 6 ½, and Finley, 3 ½.

Chris O’Donnell: I Always Wanted Five Children

We first swooned over him in Scent of a Woman. Now Chris O'Donnell is hitting the small screen alongside rapper LL Cool J in NCIS: Los Angeles. The costars recently visited On-Air with Ryan Seacrest and dished about their (big) familes.

Chris - dad to Lily Anne, 10, Christopher ‘Chip’ Eugene, 9, Charles McHugh, 6, Finley, 3 ½, and Maeve Frances, 22 months - says he always wanted a big family:

I always said I wanted five when I was younger. I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about. Once you have a couple and you realize how hard it is…We were done at four and the fifth one was the only one we were surprised about.”

LL, dad to Najee, 19, Italia, 18, Samaria, 14, and Nina, 9, added, “I always said I wanted ten [children], and then I got 60% smarter.”

When asked if Chris' wife Caroline Fentress is a fan or his new show, Chris replied, “She said, ‘Uh, I’m taking Lily to American Idol,’” he recalled with a laugh. “It was literally the first night we were on, and my wife and my oldest child [did] not stay home and watch the show.”

Chris O'Donnell first swooned us in a series of great films such as Circle of Friends and Scent of a Woman. He's back in the charming family film, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, co-starring the adorable Abigail Breslin. In real life, Chris and his wife Caroline have five children: Lily, 8, Chip, 7, Charlie, 4, Finley, 2 and Maeve, 6 months. Chris plays Mr. Kittredge, a dapper dad with a precocious daughter who face hardship during the Great Depression. Following is a rare interview with the busy dad. On preparing for this role which deals with a father not able to provide for his family: "I've got kids of my own; We all love our parents and we love our spouses, but until you have your own kid you don't really know what that kind of love is. It's where you would put yourself in front of a moving train for your kid and I think that you understand what that must have felt like. Mr. Kittredge's trying to protect his daughter as most parents do and not have her worry about the hardships of what was going on in their time. And when she sees him in the soup kitchen, he's forced to tell her a little bit more about what the realities are and what they are going to have to do. He tries to put the best spin on it or prepare her for it by telling her that story about his car — don't let it beat ya, and as parents that's about all you can do. It's a situation where he has to go off to find work."
