Debra Messing Talks Son, Singing & Smash

She won our hearts when she played quirky and neurotic interior decorator Grace Adler on Will & Grace but Debra Messing has definitely upped her ante in NBC’s new musical drama Smash, a show that revolves around a group of characters who come together to put on a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Debra recently opened up about her son Roman and on her desire to sing on the show.
Debra - who plays songwriter/lyricist Julia Houston on the show - admits that although her 7-year-old son is demonstrating some acting talent, she doesn't exactly want him to follow in her footsteps.

Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman announced on Tuesday (December 20) that they were separating after over ten years of marriage, saying through a rep that "They remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family."
Now we are seeing how committed they are – a source tells Us that the former couple "have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman," their 7-year-old son.

Actress Debra Messing and hubby, Daniel Zelman, were spotted with their son, Roman, 7, as they arrived at LAX Airport in Los Angeles, Calif. on Thursday (June 23).

Debra Messing loves being a hands-on mom to her 4-year-old son Roman - and she's got the scars to prove it!
“When I’m on the floor with my son — Look at my knees, do you see? Majorly skinned knees," she tells OK!. "That’s from my son’s birthday party on Saturday at the gym and I was crawling on the floor. Skinned knees and chasing after a little boy keeps everything in perspective.”
The pair do enjoy some down time, too. Debra, 40, says her favorite thing to do with Roman is just to cuddle up with a good book.
“We like to read together. We have an embarrassingly big library. I’m a book fanatic so he gets to go and pick out whatever he wants and his choice changes all the time.”
If you're a fan of Debra's, here's some good news: Though her show The Starter Wife has been canceled, the Will & Grace star just signed a sitcom development deal with NBC so she'll be back on the small screen soon!
She's seen here earlier this week at the 8th annual Tribeca Film Festival in NYC.

5/31/07: Debra Messing is a guest on The View. Debra told the ladies that while filming "The Starter Wife" in Australia she was away from her husband Daniel Zelman. Debra did bring son Roman (3) with her to Australia. He was on the set with her everyday. She is happy to be back home with all the family together! "I have a very full personal life that fulfills me in a way that nothing else can."
